SBI aims to raise up to Rs 10,000 crore via bond sale
State Bank of India is likely to raise up to Rs 10,000 crore through the issuance of a tier-2 bond next week as the country’s largest bank looks to shore up long-term capital amid firm demand for credit. “They (SBI) are aiming to garner up to Rs 10,000 crore through a tier-2 bond sale. The bonds are rated AAA by Crisil and India Ratings and will likely have a maturity of 15 years and a call option of 10 years,” a source aware of the development said. Typically, the coupon rates – or interest paid to investors – for SBI’s bonds are the lowest in the banking sector, as the lender witnesses firm demand for its debt offerings, given its government ownership and status as the country’s largest bank. While detailing its June quarter results, SBI’s top management forecast credit growth of more than 15% in the current financial year, saying demand in retail loans would be complemented by a healthy corporate loan pipeline in excess of Rs 3.5 trillion.

India giving a push to cruise services with IGST waiver, cruise terminals
IGST waiver to luxury vessels converting to coastal run and encouraging setting up of cruise terminals in ports. The near-term goal is to encourage tourists who would otherwise be boarding cruises from Dubai or Singapore to onboard cruises from Indian destinations, shipping ministry officials aware of the plan told ET. In line with the plan, the Centre is encouraging setting up of cruise terminals to improve passenger experience in the country’s coastline ports, which are currently focused on transporting goods, one of the officials said. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council recently gave a conditional and limited duration waiver to foreign flag foreign-going vessels converting to coastal run from the 5% integrated goods and services tax (IGST). “This IGST waiver has made it viable for companies like Costa Cruises to bring their luxury vessels to Indian shores,” Nalini Gupta, managing director of Lotus Destinations – a representative of Costa Cruises in India, told ET. Costa Cruises will have for the first time an international cruise liner stationed in India for a two-month period. “The biggest attraction is international sailing experience without having the hassles of travelling abroad, hence no visa or passport will be required,” Gupta said. Sarbananda Sonowal, union minister of ports, shipping, and waterways, told ET, “The Costa Cruises initiative has been driven by the Dekho Apna Desh initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rabi season fertiliser subsidy of Rs 22,000 crore gets nod
nutrient-based fertiliser subsidy rates for rabi season 2023-24 with an outlay of ₹22,303 crore to ensure farmers continue to get soil nutrients at reasonable rates despite high global prices. The subsidy for the upcoming rabi season will be applicable from October 1, 2023, till March 31, 2024, information and broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur said at a press meeting on Wednesday. For nitrogen-based fertiliser, the subsidy will be ₹47.2 per kg, for phosphorus it will be ₹20.82 per kg, for potash ₹2.38 per kg and for sulphur ity will be ₹1.89 per kg, he said. These rates are, however, below those during the kharif season. For instance, the nitrogen subsidy announced in May for this year's kharif season was ₹76 per kg, while that for phosphorus was ₹41 per kg. This is due to «rationalisation of subsidy on P&K fertilisers in view of recent trends in the international prices of fertilisers and inputs,» said a government statement. «Farmers will continue to get fertiliser at last year's rates,» said Thakur. The Centre was to spend ₹44,000 crore in 2023-24 on nutrient-based fertiliser subsidy, according to the budget for this financial year.
