NEW DELHI : The Union government has decided to cut the minimum export price (MEP) it set for basmati rice, a person aware of the development said, following complaints by traders that overseas shipments had become unviable. The government, which imposed a floor price of $1200 a tonne for overseas shipments in August to cool domestic prices, approved a decision to reduce it to $950 a tonne in a meeting late on Monday evening, the person cited above said. The decision is yet to be notified.

NEW DELHI : The stock market regulator plans to run a pilot for an ASBA-like facility in the secondary market in December, under which money will be transferred only after the actual share transfer. Till then, the funds remain in the investor’s bank account, and continue to earn interest. Gayatri Projects have received a single bid for the debt-laden engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company from Dubai-based private equity fund Mark AB Capital Investment LLC, offering them about 10% recovery on their total dues of ₹6,000 crore. The bankers had received two expressions of interest (EOIs) earlier this year but the other joint bid from two individuals did not result in a serious offer, people familiar with the process said. Mark AB's offer includes a small upfront payment, with the remaining payment differed after two years. «The offer includes a total of ₹50 crore upfront cash, ₹50 crore capital infusion, and the remaining ₹500 crore to be paid after two years,» said a person aware of the details. «Mark has said that it will partner with an asset reconstruction company to assign the debt and pay recoveries from it after two years.» Last week, Gayatri Projects' resolution professional Sai Ramesh Kanuparthi successfully petitioned the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to expand the resolution timeline, which has been extended by 60 days. Bankers are expected to close the deal by December. «Creditors will look to negotiate a better deal including some commitment for covering the bank guarantees (BGs) issued to the company,» said a person aware of the details.

aviation regulator has suspended operations of Redbird Flight Training Academy, taking action against India's largest flight training school after its aircraft was involved in a fifth serious incident in the past six months. «This is the fifth accident of your academy in the past six months, pertaining to engine failure or other maintenance issue,» said an order issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), after a training aircraft of the academy, on October 22, was forced to make an emergency landing in a field shortly after taking off from its centre at Baramati. «The DGCA will carry out an audit of the maintenance practices carried out by your organisation and proficiency checks of your instructors and designated examiners.» The emergency landing was reported just three days after another incident involving the academy aircraft on October 19. Redbird Aviation has bases in Baramati, Gulbarga, Lilalbari, Belgaum and Seoni in India, and one in Sri Lanka.

Investors have sought clarity from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) regarding the status of rating actions by Brickwork Ratings after the firm sharply downgraded outstanding bonds of some companies including central public sector undertaking NLC India Ltd. Investors have taken up the matter with Sebi citing uncertainty surrounding the matter following the market regulator's decision in October 2022 to cancel the certificate of registration given to Brickwork due to certain contraventions and deficiencies, people aware of the developments told ET. Sebi last month revoked the order directing Brickwork to shut down operations. Rating downgrades for bonds have significant implications for profitability of financial entities such as banks and mutual funds which are investors in such securities.

NEW DELHI : A US government office is checking whether foreign banks operating in the US conformed to the G7 price cap of $60 a barrel for Russian oil, a person aware of the matter said. The US treasury department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sought details of Russian oil purchases by including those by Indian entities in the last few months, the person said on condition of anonymity. Indian banks operating in the US include State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of Baroda and Bank of India.
