BENGALURU : One of India’s earliest edtech companies, iNurture, is in talks with Dubai-based Kimera Investment to raise capital to stave off a potential crisis that could leave about 500 employees and thousands of students stranded. iNurture, which partners with universities to offer specialised courses and skill-development programs, is facing a shortage of funds and has failed to pay salaries to its employees and faculty, according to employees and faculty members. As a result, teachers have either quit or stopped teaching, leaving students who have enrolled for iNurture courses across universities stranded.

Hindalco Industries, the world's largest aluminium rolling and recycling company, is looking at a bigger play in the auto component business by leveraging the growing electric vehicle (EV) industry, said people aware of the company's plans. Towards this, the Aditya Birla Group metals flagship is devising ways to become a direct supplier to automakers as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its aluminium «downstream businesses (value added products),» the people said. EVs, which utilise many aluminium parts since the metal is lighter than steel, will be the centrepiece of its new strategy. To fast-track the plan, Hindalco is also scouting for acquisitions in this space, the people said.

Kotak Mahindra Bank, the country's fourth-biggest private lender by market value, said its margins and unsecured loan business are affected by the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) embargo, but it has made progress in deepening relationships with Kotak 811 customers and enhanced offers to credit card customers. Ashok Vaswani, MD, conveyed this message to the analysts soon after declaring the first quarter results. He indicated that the RBI has not given any timeline on when the ban, imposed in the last week of April on onboarding customers digitally and issuing credit cards, would be lifted. «We have been assured that look, it's not as if we are going to wait till you finish every single thing before we lift the embargo,» he said. The bank has shown strong commitment by adding resources, and the RBI is aware of it, added Vaswani.

Nilesh Shah believes there is some froth in certain pockets of the markets, where low floating stocks and concentrated counters are trading at exorbitant valuations. «These valuations do not make sense from an ordinary point of view,» said Shah, who heads Kotak AMC, in a chat with ETMarkets.

Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan feels that his ministry «deserves a good budget» allocation for setting up of processing units across the country which will help in providing job opportunities to local people and also boost farmers' income. HDFC Bank on Thursday said that going forward its advances will grow slower than its deposits, as it adjusts to its merger with parent HDFC limited. In his annual address to shareholders, managing director Sashidhar Jagdishan said that the bank will work towards bringing down its credit to deposit ratio, look at prepaying HDFCs borrowings and explore profitable lending sources. “During this time of adjustment, the bank would grow its advances a little slower than the deposit growth,” Sashidhar Jagdishan, MD, HDFC Bank said in his annual address. His speech was published as part of the annual report. “We will avoid pursuing growth which does not meet our risk adjusted profitability thresholds.” Jagdishan also said that the bank is working towards bringing down its CD ratio. The credit to deposit ratio of the lender had touched 110%. Prior to the merger the private lender has maintained CD ratio in the range of 85-87%.

Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal, founders of ecommerce firm Snapdeal and investment fund Titan Capital, have exited at-home services platform Urban Company, bagging a nearly 200 times return on their nine-year-old seed cheque. They sold their stake to Vy Capital’s offshoot Dharana Capital which made a $50 million secondary transaction at the Gurugram-based firm. Bahl and Bansal, who had invested Rs 57 lakh in 2015, made the full exit that closed earlier this month with aggregate proceeds of Rs 111 crore, according to people aware of the transaction.

IAS officer Puja Khedkar to record her statement regarding allegations of harassment against the Pune district collector, a senior officer said on Wednesday. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed to PTI that Khedkar has been asked to come to Pune to provide her statement. «I am not aware of any such complaint against me. No one communicated to me about this. So there is no question of giving a reaction. I came to know about this complaint only through media reports,» Pune district collector Suhas Diwase told PTI. Another official said correspondence by Pune Police asking Khedkar to record her statement was served to her at her temporary residence in Washim on Wednesday.

Small-scale fisher organisations from India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Ecuador, and Gambia have asked fisheries subsidies negotiations to be kept out of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and said that the ongoing negotiations on curbing overcapacity and overfishing (OCOF) subsidies are “unfair and unbalanced”. They said that the exemptions for small-scale fishers across developing countries is being restricted by imposing irrational conditionalities. The World Forum of Fisher Peoples and World Forum of Fish Harvesters and Fish Workers have raised concerns at the negotiations which seek disciplines on subsidies such as those for construction, acquisition and modernisation of vessels.

Ola Electric is expected to launch its public offering for subscription in the next few weeks at a discounted valuation of around $4 billion, a decrease of about a fourth from its last private funding round, multiple people aware of the details said. In September 2023, Ola Electric had snagged a value of $5.4 billion when it raised $140 million in a round led by Singapore's Temasek. The proposed listing will be among the largest new-economy IPOs this year, signalling a revival of public market debuts by technology-first companies.
