Stock market update: Nifty Bank index advances 0.36% in an upbeat market
IDFCBANK(up 1.94 per cent), Axis Bank(up 1.54 per cent), Punjab National Bank(up 1.03 per cent), AU Small Finance Bank(up 0.96 per cent) and Bank of Baroda(up 0.39 per cent) were among the top gainers. Bandhan Bank(down 0.83 per cent), Federal Bank(down 0.35 per cent), IndusInd Bank(down 0.09 per cent) and State Bank of India(down 0.01 per cent) were the top losers on the index. The Nifty Bank index was up 0.36 per cent at 44654.75 at the time of writing this report. Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 107.2 points at 19449.85, while the BSE Sensex was up 360.94 points at 65436.76. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 41 were trading in the green, while 9 were in the red. Shares of Reliance Power, Zomato, Suzlon Energy, JP Power and Vodafone Idea were among the most traded shares on the NSE. Electricity demand, shortage hit record
NEW DELHI : Electricity usage that began rising in July touched record levels of demand in August as rains waned, driving stocks of power companies to new highs. As demand surged, power shortage also shot up. According to data from the Grid Controller of India, the country saw a record peak shortage of 9.11 gigawatts (GW)—or over 4% of the peak demand—on 21 August, when peak demand was 226GW.

Axis Bank launches paid saving a/c with no charges for services, balance requirements
Axis Bank on Tuesday launched a paid savings account where the customer will not be charged for many services and will not be required to maintain a minimum balance.Customers will be charged Rs 150 per month or the discounted Rs 1,650 per year for what has been christened as 'Infinity Savings Account' by the third largest private sector lender. At present, a majority of the banks insist on a minimum balance for having a savings account, and charge holders a fee whenever the balance drops below the threshold. They also charge for extending services like SMS alerts, printing passbooks etc. A few players like Fino Payments Bank, do charge an annual account maintenance fee of the kind which Axis Bank is introducing with the new account.
