GDP growth at 7.3% in govt’s crystal ball
₹171.79 trillion against the provisional estimate of ₹160.06 trillion for FY23 released in May last year. The ministry estimates nominal GDP growth of 8.9% in FY24, lower than the 10.5% estimated in the union budget for this year. However, some economists expect India’s full-year economic growth to range closer to the RBI’s forecast of 7%, as government expenditure, which was high during the first eight months of the ongoing fiscal, is expected to slow down in the last quarter.

Despite the manner Newlands pitch behaved across the four sessions in two days, Indian pacers – Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mukesh Kumar – destroyed South Africa's dangerous batting order, which led the Test match over in just 5 sessions.

Indian women vying for all-round improvement in T20Is against Australia
T20 World Cup later this year, the Indian women's cricket team will be vying for all-round improvement against six-time world champions Australia when the two sides clash in a three-match series starting here on Friday. For the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side, plenty will be at stake after a 0-3 hammering against Australia in the recently-concluded ODI series, having earlier lost a three-match T20I series to England. The historic wins in the one-off Test each against England and Australia notwithstanding, Harmanpreet's side has a lot of ground to cover in white-ball cricket to improve its dismal record against Australia.

A cursory glance at the scorecard will tell you that they needed only 79 runs and got there in 12 overs. However, that will not convey how difficult this pitch made it for even the best batsmen in the world to perform their job.

India vs South Africa, 2nd Test Day 2: India defeated South Africa by 7 wickets on Thursday to level up the two-match Test series 1-1. The victory surely belongs to the Indian pacers led by Mohammed Siraj, who consistently delivered exceptional spells on both days, even as Indian batters struggled to recover from the nightmare of Centurion. The extra bouncy pitch of Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town provided a clear edge to pacers with batters of both teams crumbling like cards.

India vs South Africa: Going into the 2nd Test, India should worry more about their bowling stocks
Centurion to lose the first Test by an innings and 32 runs. Although the pitch aided a fair amount of seam movement on the first day, it was not one on which this Test team should have been bowled out for 245 and 131. Equally, it was not a surface on which this bowling attack should have conceded 408.

Lessons in Economics from the IPL auction
₹24.75 crore. What explains this? First, Starc is a great T20 bowler, who has taken 170 wickets in the 121 T20 appearances at an average of 19.5 per wicket and an economy rate of 7.5 runs per over. Second, he will be playing IPL after eight years, bringing a certain novelty to the tournament and the team that he will play for.

Virat Kohli returns to run-scoring ways in record-breaking 2023, but redemption incomplete sans ICC, IPL trophies
Virat Kohli returned to his normal, run-scoring ways with a historic, record-breaking and consistent 2023 as a batter, breaking some massive batting records previously considered untouchable. The star batter went several steps ahead to match the legacy of the Indian great Sachin Tendulkar. This year will be known as the one of Virat's redemption. Every match, every series, and every tournament saw him grab headlines and re-write record books, even during some occasional off days with the bat. Though Virat's redemption story remains incomplete without the presence of the highly-elusive Indian Premier League (IPL) title, ICC World Test Championship mace, and the most heartbreaking of them all, an ICC Cricket World Cup trophy at home, Virat's batting still gave millions of his fans immeasurable joy, ecstasy, pride, and many more reasons to consider him their 'GOAT' (Greatest of All Time).
