Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress president said the BJP MP was compelled to withdraw his defamatory remarks made during the debate on the Waqf Bill in the Lower House. «But the damage has been done,» Kharge said. He also sought an apology from Thakur as well as the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, J P Nadda, over the issue. «Yesterday, Anurag Thakur hurled completely false and baseless charges at me in the Lok Sabha. When my colleagues challenged him, he was compelled to withdraw his defamatory remarks. But the damage has been done,» Kharge said.

Parliament, the government brought three changes in the bill, including the one proposing that the protected monuments declared as waqf would be void. As per this amendment, all the protected monuments or protected areas cannot be declared as waqf and all those which had been declared so in the past would be nullified after the passage of this bill. For this, the amendment was done in clause 4 of the bill. The government also brought in another amendment that no land belonging to members of Scheduled Tribes, under the provisions of the fifth schedule or sixth schedule to the Constitution, can be declared as waqf. With this, there would be a bar on declaration of any land in the Scheduled or tribal area as waqf. CHANGE 3 And as per the last amendment, the government has proposed to fix a time limit of 45 days for implementation of the waqf board decisions by a district magistrate.

Congress on Sunday demanded that the government bring a legislation to implement the UPA-enacted Article 15(5) for providing reservation to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in the private, unaided, but non-minority educational institutions. It pointed out that a 2014 apex court order had upheld Article 15(5), that the 2024 Lok Sabha election manifesto of Congress had promised to do the same and that a standing panel report too had favoured the course. COST WhatsApp Bill Indian Bank hikes lending rate linked to repo rate by 10 bps
Indian Bank on Monday announced an increase in lending rate linked to repo rate by 10 basis points to 9.05 per cent, making retail loans expensive. The Asset Liability Management Committee (ALCO) of the bank has reviewed the Marginal Cost of funds-based Lending Rate (MCLR), Treasury Bills Linked Lending Rates (TBLR), Base Rate, Benchmark Prime Lending Rate (BPLR) and Repo Linked Benchmark Lending Rates (RBLR) and decided for revision in TBLR, Base Rate, BPLR and RBLR, Indian Bank said in a regulatory filing. Repo Linked Benchmark Lending Rates (RBLR) has been raised to 9.05 per cent from the existing 8.95 per cent, it said. The lending rate hike comes despite the Reserve Bank cutting repo rate from 6.5 per cent to 6.25 per cent last month.
