Federal Reserve did not cut the bank rates and kept them at their highest levels in two years, indices of major stock exchanges tumbled, sending strong signals of approaching recession Thursday, reports CNBC. While 30-stock Dow Jones fell 494.82 points, or 1.21%, to end at 40,347.97, the S&P 500 slipped 1.37% to end at 5,446.68. Similarly, the Nasdaq Composite lost 2.3% to settle at 17,194.15. Besides, other data also triggered the general apprehension of an impending recession that the US economy is heading to. While unemployment data continued to rise and reached its highest level since August 2023, the ISM manufacturing index, came down at 46.8%. The barometer of factory activities in the US is at its worst level, further signaling economic contraction. The 10-year Treasury yield followed these parameters and dropped below 4% for the first time since February 2024.

Southwest Airlines is under increased scrutiny by federal safety officials

European planemaker Airbus plans to show off its newest passenger jet with daily flight demonstrations during one of the world’s biggest aviation trade fairs

Airbus has shortlisted eight sites in India to open its second assembly line in the country in partnership with Tata Advanced Systems (TASL), weeks ahead of the inauguration of the first, which is for the C295 transport plane. The second plant will make the H125 and will be the fourth for the single-engine helicopter after factories in France, Brazil and the US. It will produce around 10 helicopters a year with the first of these debuting in early 2026. Airbus expects the Indian subcontinent excluding Pakistan to be a market for about 500 such helicopters over the next 20 years. The H125 starts at a list price of '30 crore. «The FAL (final assembly line) in India will not only make us competitive in terms of lead time, delivery time, it will also help us address the growth of the Indian market and possibly the demand from neighbouring nations,» Olivier Michalon, executive vice president, global business, Airbus Helicopters, told reporters in the French city, location of the helicopter's first assembly line. He expects the model to be as successful in India as the Airbus A320 is with the country's airlines. «H125 is our A320,» he said.

Boeing's defense unit said Sunday the planemaker is still «fighting through challenges» in building two delayed U.S. presidential aircraft known as Air Force One. In 2018, Boeing received a $3.9 billion contract to build two 747-8 aircraft for use as Air Force One, to be delivered by December 2024, but they are now delayed until at least 2027 and 2028. Ted Colbert, who heads Boeing Defense, Space & Security, said the planemaker is facing supply chain, inflation, workforce and other challenges in building the airplanes. Boeing is heavily modifying a pair of 747s for the project.
