CBI arrests three in Balasore triple train crash
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Friday, arrested three people in connection with the Balasore train accident in Odisha that left around 300 people dead and injured more than 1,000. The investigation agency arrested the then SSE (Senior Section engineer) Arun Kumar, Section engineer Mohammad Amir Khan and technician Pappu Kumar under Sections 304 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 153 of Railways Act, 1989, CBI said in a statement. The accident took place when a passenger train hit a stationary freight train, jumped off the tracks and hit another passenger train coming from the opposite direction.

₹1.53 crore on income of ₹3.42 crore received by the family-held trusts that owned a south Mumbai flat, according to the CBI. CBI is investigating the role of several people who allegedly helped former WAPCOS CMD Rajinder Gupta, arrested after the seizure of Rs 38 crore in cash from his premises, in purchasing properties worth crores by procuring demand drafts and pay orders in exchange for cash, the agency said its charge sheet. In the charge sheet filed before a CBI special court recently, the agency has alleged that Gupta amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as CMD of WAPCOS, a central public sector enterprise, from April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2019. The charge sheet filed under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC Sections 109 and 201 (destruction of evidence) has named Gupta and his wife, Reema Singal, as accused.

CRS report on Odisha train accident won't be made public to avoid influencing CBI probe: Railways
Railways will not make public the CRS probe report on the Balasore triple train accident to ensure that there is no «influence or interference» on the CBI's ongoing investigation in the case, senior officials told PTI on Friday. While there has been no official confirmation, some sources said the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) informed in its report that the accident occurred due to human error on the part of on-duty officials in the Signalling and Telecom Department as well as the Traffic Department. The officials failed to follow the standard operating procedure in place for train operations, according to the sources.
