The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three railway officials in connection with the Odisha train accident in which 293 people were killed -- 287 on the spot or brought dead to hospital while six succumbed to injuries in hospitals. More than 1,000 people were injured in the Odisha train accident.
The investigation agency has arrested - Arun Kumar Mahanta (senior section engineer), Mohammad Amir Khan (section engineer) and Pappu Kumar (technician) in the Balasore train derailment probe. All the accused are posted in Balasore district and were arrested for “their actions" which resulted in the Odisha train accident.
According to the CBI, the accused persons have been arrested under sections 304 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code for “their action which led to the incident". The Odisha train accident involved three trains: the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a stationary goods train.
