Lok Sabha elections next year.  The Centre approved a draft of the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill on Wednesday, effectively paving the way for India's first privacy law. The proposed legislation is likely to be tabled during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. The proposed legislation stipulates consent before collecting personal data and provides for stiff penalties of as much as ₹500 crore on persons and companies that fail to prevent data breaches including accidental disclosures, sharing, altering, or destroying personal data.

Uniform Civil Code controversy. PM Modi has pushed for the implementation of UCC, while the opposition leaders warn the government of potential law and order issues if the common law comes into effect in India.  A Uniform Civil Code (UCC) refers to a common set of laws that are applicable to all citizens and is not based on religion in dealing with marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption among other personal matters. According to PM Modi, having two separate sets of laws is not sustainable for the country, and he believes that the Uniform Civil Code is an integral part of the Constitution.

New Delhi: The union ministry of new and renewable energy on Wednesday released the draft roadmap for research and development of green hydrogen manufacturing and storage. As per the draft roadmap, the plans to develop efficient, safe, and cost-effective hydrogen storage methods that enable high-density storage, reduce leakage, and allow for easy and quick refueling.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday announced the launch of the “Scheme for Expansion and Modernization of Fire Services in the States" with a total budget of Rs. 5,000 crore.  The scheme, part of the preparedness and capacity building funding window under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), aims to strengthen fire services across the country.  Out of the allocated amount, Rs.

The Centre aims to procure 2.6 million tonnes (mt) coarse grains or millets in the coming 2023-24 Kharif marketing season and distribute 2.2 mt.  A comprehensive strategy to increase the procurement of coarse grains was discussed and formulated during a conference of all states’ and union territories’ ministers under the chairmanship of Union food minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi today.   “This strategic focus on coarse grains or millets reflects a broader objective to strengthen the nutritional security of the beneficiaries. It is projected that a total of 26.14 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of coarse grains would be procured in Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2023-2024, while the expected distribution would be 22.31 LMT," an official statement said.  The food department highlighted the scale of, and reforms in, procurement process of foodgrains which is key to providing food security and stability to domestic prices of foodgrains.  A millet exhibition showcasing various millet products was held on the side-lines of the conference to promote consumption of the coarse grains.  Appreciating the efforts of the State and UT governments for procuring and distribution of foodgrains, Goyal said they should work together with the Centre in the spirit of cooperative federalism.

MUMBAI : The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) is working on a proposal to establish a common customer care centre to serve all its 12 public sector bank (PSB) members, aiming to save on costs and offer a consistent customer experience, two people aware of the development said. The idea is to provide a single helpline number that customers across banks can dial for queries and complaints. According to the proposed plan, an interactive voice response (IVR) system would greet customers and address initial queries, with calls transferred to respective bank call centres to address complex issues that require human intervention, the people said on condition of anonymity.

Delhi Metro's Yellow Line record third time in twenty-four hours DMRC, in a third amendment notice within a day, renamed HUDA City Centre Metro Station. The metro station on Delhi Metro's Yellow Line will now be known as Millennium City Centre Gurugram. The DMRC in a tweet said that ,"In reference to our earlier tweet regarding the renaming of the HUDA City Centre Metro station, this is to inform that the full name of the station will read as Millennium City Centre Gurugram."   The station falls in Haryana's Gurugram, a bustling IT and commercial hub in the National Capital Region (NCR) that is known as Millenium City.
