The change in appointments comes following new norms notified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) called the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations. The first set of these regulations was notified in 2010, which was revised in 2016 and 2019. In rest of the cases, the vice chancellors shall be appointed by the chancellor from a panel of three names suggested by a search-cum-selection committee. The move, however, has been questioned by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh who raised apprehensions about the autonomy of these institutions.

NEW DELHI : Amid skyrocketing prices of Kharif pulses, the Union government will supply chana dal (gram) to states for purposes other than welfare schemes, and to about 705 retail outlets of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (Nafed), National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF), Kendriya Bhandar and Safal. This comes after the Centre approved a proposed mechanism for converting 20% chana stock into chana dal for retail sale by the department of consumer affairs.

Uniform Civil Code (UCC) were renewed as Prime Minister Narendra Modi vouched for the same during his recent address in Bhopal. The committee formed by the Uttarakhand government for preparing the draft of UCC has also submitted its report to the state government and it is being said that the Centre might also use the same draft.
