Silicon Valley tech giant Cisco is buying cybersecurity firm Splunk in a $28 billion deal as it looks to keep up with potential security threats that could be brought about by the increasing use of artificial intelligence

Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Splunk (NASDAQ:SPLK) have entered into a definitive takeover agreement, with Cisco intending to acquire Splunk for $157 per share in cash, two companies said today.

Hackers have targeted a popular Windows-based software packaging tool to infect computers with crypto mining malware, IT security firm Cisco Talos Intelligence Group has revealed.
