KYC exists to prevent fraud and not to make people miserable
Also read: KYC Maze: Investors, distributors face updating hurdles with NDML & DotEx KRAs In the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) KYC norms through the Master Directive in 2016 and subsequent updates, banks were mandated to ensure: that any new bank account applicant is who they say they are (proof of identity); they live where they say they live (proof of address); banks had to also conduct a physical verification for the documents (OSV, or Original Seen and Verified and CPV, or Contact Point Verification) The reason for this type of verification is to ensure that no fraudster enters the system, specifically, the government was worried about terrorism and money laundering. Along the way, RBI introduced anti-money laundering checks to enhance security. The new fraudsters found that they could use minimum KYC compliance norms using stolen IDs to open ‘burner’ accounts or mule accounts.

Remembering a slice of Indian hospitality during WWII
Prime Minister Narendra Modi heads to Poland on August 21, the first visit by an Indian premier in 45 years, some focus will be on a forgotten slice of history during the turbulent Second World War in which two Indian rulers gave shelter and protection to thousands of Polish children and refugees caught in the crossfires of the biggest-ever conflict on earth. The PM is likely to pay a visit to the 'Good Maharaja Square' in Warsaw, which has been built to pay homage to the erstwhile ruler of Nawanagar, Maharaja Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji, who provided shelter to a group of Polish children who had been left homeless after Poland was ravished by the war. The Nawanagar ruler, along with Shrimant Rajarshi Chhatrapati Sahu Maharaj of Kolhapur provided housing and hospitality to an estimated 5,000 Polish citizens from 1942 to 1946 as the war raged in Europe.

Will quit politics if CM says I am hindering Maratha quota process: Devendra Fadnavis in swipe at Manoj Jarange
Fadnavis on Monday said he would quit politics if CM Eknath Shinde asserted that he was hindering the Maratha quota process, referring to allegations by activist Manoj Jarange. Stressing that government decisions are taken collectively, Shinde defended Fadnavis and called Jarange's allegations against him baseless. Jarange is a strident critic of the senior BJP leader and has routinely accused him of being the main obstacle in the Maratha community's quest for reservation in government jobs and education. Stating that he knew Jarange has «special affection» for him, Fadnavis said at a press briefing, «Should CM Eknath Shinde assert that my presence poses a hindrance to reaching a decision concerning the Maratha quota, I shall tender my resignation and withdraw from politics.»
