India issues advisory to nationals in three regions in Russia amid security concerns
Indian embassy here on Wednesday advised its citizens, including students, residing in Bryansk, Belgorod, and Kursk regions of Russia to relocate temporarily to safer places, citing recent «security incidents» in these areas following the intensification of the Russia-Ukraine war. The security advisory was issued hours after Russia's Belgorod border region declared an emergency under heavy shelling by Ukrainian forces that are pressing a major cross-border incursion into the adjacent Kursk region for a second week. An emergency was declared in Kursk last Saturday after Ukrainian forces on August 6 launched an incursion into the region, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, with both sides reporting casualties and territorial gains. «In view of the recent security incidents in Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk regions, Indian nationals are advised to take necessary precautions and temporarily relocate outside these regions,» the Indian embassy said.

Understanding professional tax: What every employee and self-employed individual should know
The other day, I was sitting withtwo of myfriends—one a consultant and the other an employee—when the conversation turned to taxes. My colleague, an employee, was surprised to learn that he had been paying a professional tax of ₹200 every month, automatically deducted from his salary by his employer. The consultant, on the other hand, was fully aware of this tax, as he had to handle the payments himself.

A takeaway from the Bank of England Museum: Go easy on issuing fiat currency
On 21 July, I visited the Bank of England Museum in London. It was an interesting and an engaging experience. Nonetheless, I was left wanting more, simply because I thought the museum would be more about the history of money than about who did what at the Bank of England since its establishment in 1694.

Excise policy case: Delhi CM Kejriwal challenges his arrest by CBI in SC, moves bail plea
Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the excise policy case and has also filed a bail plea. The Delhi High Court had earlier dismissed his petition challenging the arrest and advised him to seek bail from the trial court. While dismissing Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest, the HC stated that the prosecution has explained that, respecting his position as Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi, the police treaded with trepidation and caution and proceeded to collect the evidence from other persons suspected to be the accused. Consequently, extensive investigations were carried out across India to ascertain the entire web of conspiracy involving numerous persons. In his plea to the Delhi HC, CM Kejriwal stated that he is the National Convenor of a National Political Party (Aam Aadmi Party) and the sitting Chief Minister of Delhi, who is being subjected to «gross persecution and harassment for wholly malafide and extraneous considerations.»

The temples and mutts are not secured and at night they are guarding it. Our daughters are also not safe. I condemn these attacks and appeal to the Bangladesh interim government to protect them. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a strong stand on it. There is anger in the country. India should take a strong decision on this issue if this continues.»

15 years after coming into being, village courts fight vacancies, financial woes to deliver justice
justice, 'gram nyayalayas' or village courts are today finding it difficult to live up to their purpose due to manpower shortage and financial crunch. So far 481 gram nyayalayas have been notified by 15 states, of which 309 have been made operational in 10 states, the law ministry told Parliament in the just-concluded Monsoon session. In 1986, the law commission had suggested setting up village courts to provide affordable and quick access to justice to citizens at their doorsteps. After years, The Gram Nyayalayas Act, 2008 came into effect from Gandhi Jayanti the next year. The Act provides for the establishment of gram nyayalayas at the grassroots level to provide access to justice to the citizens at their doorsteps and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to anyone due to social, economic or other disabilities.

Japan is living in the shadow of the megaquake that could kill 320,000, trigger 10m tsunami waves & cause $1.5 tn damage
Japan is to live with the risk of a devastating earthquake at any time. Usually, however, people tend to view that threat in the abstract. It’s kind of like thinking about death — I know I’ll die someday, but I hope it won’t be today. And so far, at least, I keep getting lucky. Until we don’t. Thursday’s announcement from Japanese authorities, warning of an increased risk of a long-feared megaquake, forced citizens to consider the very real and immediate danger of an event that would devastate the country and upend life as we know it.
