Amid cautious hiring, internship becomes mandatory and extended
companies are increasingly insisting that freshers undergo mandatory internships with them for an extended period before they make the final offers, delaying the hiring process that has just started seeing some activity after a washout year. Placement officers in several tier-1 and -2 engineering colleges that ET spoke to said internships, which used to be six months, have now been extended by another four-six months. “Employers are increasingly seeking fresh graduates with internship experience in AI/ML, data roles, model development and analytics,” said Munira Loliwala, vice president, strategy and growth, at staffing services firm TeamLease Digital. “The shortage of skilled entry-level talent has led companies to offer extended internships, enhancing the likelihood of hiring through management trainee programs later.”

Political thinking has become an unattractive career choice in free India
Lamenting on how the “river of ideas that nourished politics has dried up" in independent India, Yogendra Yadav draws attention to “the atrophy of the political imagination...that afflicts the entire political class, cutting across ideological and political boundaries." In his recent column in the Indian Express, the analyst-cum-activist asks, “Where are our political thinkers?" Well, quite a number of our most talented and ambitious young people are responding to economic incentives and pursuing careers in industry, technology and business. Our education system smothers thinking of any kind and our political discourse has long been hostile to free thinking. It comes as no surprise to me that a free, independent India produces fewer political thinkers than Olympic medallists.

U.S Presidential elections 2024: Harris' biggest challenge; holding momentum till November
Kamala Harris experienced following her nomination convention, less than two weeks ago, when they believed that she would be linked to President Joe Biden's potentially disastrous reelection campaign. She has given hope to Democrats who had lost hope and revitalized a party that was about to lose hope. But the sobering truth is that success is far from certain. It is not likely that Harris will be able to defeat former President Donald Trump with the swing voters that the thousands of ecstatic delegates in the hall this week represented. Numerous presidential candidates throughout history have stirred their supporters during conventions but ultimately failed in November. Trump is no pushover, whatever else he may be. The next two and a half months will be brutal for Harris. Also Read: Not UPenn or Georgetown, Barron Trump is heading to New York for college this fall

No positive boost from DNC, can Harris beat Trump in November? Here's what latest polls say
Kamala Harris's closing remarks during the Democratic National Convention last night had little effect on attendees' intentions to vote. But there might be a change in the presidential contest now that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is apparently withdrawing later today. According to FiveThirtyEight's most recent average of national polls, Harris leads Trump by 3.5 points. National polls have shown Harris to be slightly ahead of Trump on average, but the race is still close with swing states. According to the most recent national survey conducted by Outward Intelligence from August 18 to 22, Harris has not yet experienced any favorable boost following this week's DNC. Harris continues to lead Trump by +6 points in this poll, with 49.5 percent of the vote. But nothing has changed from the same poll conducted last week. According to the polls, both Trump and Harris would gain ground in a straight-up contest; however, Trump would narrow Harris's lead, with 48 percent to the vice president's 52 percent. For the first time King Charles says he lost his sense of taste amid his cancer treatment
King Charles III recently provided a rare update on his health during a visit with families in Southport who were affected by a tragic knife attack that claimed the lives of three children. When asked about his well-being amidst ongoing cancer treatment, the King responded with optimism, stating that he was doing “not too bad.” This marks a significant moment as Charles, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February, has mostly kept his health details private, sharing only occasional updates, as per the reports of Yahoo entertainment.
