So much to learn from India, says UK minister
artificial intelligence (AI) and space science, said a Cabinet minister in Prime Minister Keir Starmer-led government. Addressing a Diwali celebration organised by the Labour Indian diaspora group on Monday evening, UK Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Liz Kendall reiterated the party's manifesto for the July general election committed to pursuing closer ties with India and a free trade agreement (FTA). As a member of Parliament from Leicester West, a constituency closely associated with the British-Indian community, the minister said she remains determined to champion the India-UK relationship in the Labour government and her city. «It was a very clear part of our manifesto that we want to build a new strategic relationship with India because we understand the vital relationship between our two great nations,» said Kendall.

Who is Lidia Thorpe and why did the Indigenous Australian senator heckle King Charles?
Lidia Thorpe interrupted King Charles during a parliamentary reception on his visit to Australia, shouting accusations of historical wrongs committed against Indigenous Australians. «You committed genocide against our people. Give us our land back. Give us what you stole from us—our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people,» Thorpe declared, according to a viral video that captured the event. The 51-year-old senator was quickly escorted out by security personnel. Thorpe’s actions sent shockwaves through Parliament, where many lawmakers and dignitaries were present. Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who attended the event, referred to the senator’s outburst as «unfortunate political exhibitionism.» Later, Thorpe defended her actions, telling the BBC, «To be sovereign, you have to be of the land. He is not of this land.»

France extends internal border controls until April 2025; What travellers to Schengen area need to know
France has announced its decision to maintain internal border controls until April 30, 2025, due to heightened terrorist threats and concerns over irregular migration. The French authorities formally notified the European Commission that border controls with neighboring Schengen countries—Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy—will not conclude on October 31, 2024, as initially scheduled. The extension follows the country's ongoing concerns over public safety. France's current border control measures will end on October 31, 2024, and a new set of controls will take effect from November 1, 2024. The decision comes amid threats related to terrorist activities, the presence of criminal networks involved in illegal migration, and migration flows that could potentially include radicalized individuals.

Killed or not, Salman Khan should apologise to Bishnoi community in Blackbuck case: Famous singer
Salman Khan’s ongoing feud with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has been the talk of the town lately. The superstar has been subjected to innumerable death threats for killing two Blackbucks in Rajasthan in 1998. For the unversed, the Bishnoi community deems the Blackbuck as a sacred symbol. The community representatives have requested the ‘Dabangg’ actor to issue an apology. Singer Anup Jalota has now added fuel to the fire after he stated that the actor owes the Bishnois an apology. “I just want to say that it is not the time to get into who killed and who didn’t… One should realise that Salman’s close friend Baba Siddique was allegedly killed because of the same. Now, the focus should be on solving the conflict,” he told ABP News. The singer then suggested that Khan should resolve the conflict so that he could live safely. “I have a small request for Salman to go to the temple and apologise to ensure his safety and protect his family and close friends. I am sure they will accept his apology. Salman should go and then lead a safe life… It is not the time to complicate the matter. Whether he killed or not, Salman should apologise. No one will get anything by getting stuck into the feud,” he said.

The scandal of the Indonesian leader's son and the private jet
On board that August flight from Jakarta to Los Angeles were Kaesang Pangarep, the younger son of President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, and Kaesang's wife, Erina Gudono. Details of the trip trickled out on Erina's social media accounts: a $1,500 stroller for their soon-to-be-born baby and a $25 lobster roll for lunch. Her posts were seen as tone deaf and led to an uproar at home because most Indonesians cannot afford luxury items. But what made many furious was the fact that the couple traveled on a private jet. It was the antithesis of the Everyman image Joko has long projected. The plane was linked to Shopee, the operator of an online mall. The company had planned to construct a new building in the city of Solo, where Joko began his political career and where until recently the mayor was his older son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
