Got soiled, taped or torn Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 500 bank notes? How to exchange them at any bank branch
Bank of India (RBI) has mandated every bank in India to provide a facility for the exchange of soiled/mutilated/damaged currency notes in lieu of fresh notes. But there are various rules about determining the value of such notes and how the fresh notes are to be disbursed to the tenderer of such soiled notes. “All branches of banks in all parts of the country are mandated to provide the following customer services, more actively and vigorously to the members of the public so that there is no need for them to approach RBI Regional Offices for this purpose: (i) Issuing fresh/good quality notes and coins of all denominations, (ii) Exchanging soiled/mutilated / defective notes, and…..,” said the RBI in a Master Direction dated April 3, 2023, and updated on May 15, 2023.

World Cup squad, which will be announced on Sunday. Rahul has been recuperating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru post a thigh surgery, and he will have one final round of fitness drills before flying out to Sri Lanka to join the Indian team for the ongoing Asia Cup. It is understood that the NCA trainers and the team management have been left with little doubt after Rahul batted extensively at nets and in the match simulation process. India was expected to announce their World Cup-bound 15 on September 4 ahead of the September 5 cut off date. But the selectors decided to go ahead with the announcement after Rahul received the fitness clearance. He can be expected to keep wickets too in the World Cup. Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar had reached Pallekele on Saturday, and it is understood that he held discussions with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid post India's match against Pakistan, which was abandoned due to rain. Ishan Kishan will be the second wicketkeeper in the side and his composed 81 against Pakistan on Saturday was the clincher. It means that Sanju Samson will miss out on an India berth.

Homebuyers urge housing minister to blacklist builders whose projects are stalled for over 2 years
The Forum for People’s Collective Efforts (FPCE) has approached the minister with a suggestion that the concessions and exemptions recommended by the Amitabh Kant Committee to realty developers or their stuck projects be limited to only legacy stalled projects to prevent misuse. It has also sought compensation for homebuyers of projects that would be granted such an extension. Homebuyers have also urged that extension for a project, if granted, should be on a case-to-case basis and based on the timeline required to complete the projects in normal circumstances and no blanket extension of three years should be given. FPCE has also recommended to the ministry of housing & urban affairs a RERA monitoring committee (RMC) be established, primarily composed of homebuyers, distinguished independent individuals and reputable non-profit organisations. “The Amitabh Kant Committee report has highlighted the lack of intent on authorities’ part to implement RERA in letter and spirit.

Ramaswamy’s pointers can reset conservatism
Is conservatism, as a political credo, open to change? Edmund Burke, the 18th century thinker who laid down its basic principles in the West, held that the wisdom of past generations had to be upheld, society was composed of the living as well as the dead and unborn, and all social reform had to be gradual for the sake of stability. In Burke’s country, the UK, the Conservative party in power has Rishi Sunak as its leader, a man of Indian descent who affirms his credentials with—among other things—his tough stance on letting in settlers. In the US, Democrat Joe Biden is president, but the Republican party in search of power has found a new voice in Vivek Ramaswamy, another man of desi lineage who professes conservative ideology; he has lately grabbed attention by setting forth 10 snappy “truths": “God is real.

No ‘substantial change’ in Sharia Law under UCC: Law Commission assures AIMPLB
Law Commission of India that no “substantial change” that could alter the basic features of the Sharia law will be suggested to the government in drafting of a proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the AIMPLB said on Thursday. A delegation of the Muslim body led by its president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani on Wednesday met the chairman of the Law Commission, Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, who wished to seek the board's opinion on the UCC as well as its views on certain issues related to the Muslim personal law. While conveying to Awasthi that the UCC was “unacceptable” to Muslims, Rahmani explained that the Sharia was composed of two components – one based on the Quran and Sunna (Prophet's words and actions) and another, the Ijtehad, on the Islamic scholars’ opinions. AIMPLB also said that the chairman of the commission raised some specific questions on the personal law – such as whether there was specific age prescribed for marriage in Islam, position of the AIMPLB on Nikah-eHalala and Muta marriage as well as its views on gender justice – on which the board explained its stance. “The chairman assured the delegation that they are not going to suggest any substantial change which may alter the basic features of Sharia Law.
