Digital lending sector sees slowdown in growth, higher bad loans as regulator increases scrutiny
The Reserve Bank of India has given a clear indication that it does not want unsecured lenders to grow faster than 20%, according to three startup founders in the sector, who said a slowdown in new disbursals could result in an increase in bad loans. “While officially the RBI has taken a cautious stance, through backchannel conversations the industry has been asked to stay within the 20% growth limit and also keep the total cost of borrowing for the customers at moderate levels,” the founder of a digital lending startup said on the condition of anonymity.

Canada Post strike is ‘highly disrespectful of Canadians’: minister
Canada Post strike nears the three-week mark, the federal labour minister called the nationwide mail stoppage “highly disrespectful” of Canadians.Speaking to reporters in Ottawa on Wednesday, Steven MacKinnon said he has been in regular contact with special mediator, Peter Simpson, to see where both parties stand after mediated talks were temporarily suspended last week.“I’ve been in daily discussions with … the mediator who is shuttling between the parties to see if there is a reasonable prospect that mediation, if it resumes, it will succeed. He has not yet given me that advice,” MacKinnon said.“The parties are still very far apart, and that is in my view, among other things, highly disrespectful of Canadians who are suffering through this work stoppage, small businesses, people in rural and remote communities who rely on Canada Post’s services and these parties have to knuckle down and get the work done.”By Wednesday, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business had estimated that the postal strike, which began on Nov.

Rs 350 samosa, Rs 250 tea, common man forced to buy overpriced items: AAP's Raghav Chadha exposes high prices and air travel woes
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha brought attention to a series of ongoing issues with air travel in India, stating that the government has failed to deliver on its promise of affordable domestic airfares. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday during a discussion on the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, Chadha highlighted the numerous challenges passengers face, from rising ticket prices to overcrowded airports and high baggage charges. Chadha began by emphasising that economy class, once regarded as an affordable option for the average traveller, is no longer economically viable. Quoting his own experience, Chadha pointed out that airfares for domestic flights have reached unreasonably high levels. «Economy class is no longer economical. Before coming to the debate in this house today, I was checking flight rates on my phone. If I have to travel from Delhi to Mumbai tomorrow, the ticket costs 14,000 rupees. The cheapest one-way ticket from Delhi to Patna is 12,000 rupees, and from Delhi to Bangalore, it’s 16,000 rupees,» Chadha said. He added, «And forget that, just the day before yesterday, I travelled from my region Punjab to Delhi. I took a flight from Mohali Airport to Chandigarh Airport and reached Delhi. The ticket for that flight was 14,500 rupees.»

Green fleets: Why more companies are opting for EV leasing over traditional ownership
This is a particularly notable trend in India. Currently valued at about USD 170 million, the EV leasing market is expected to develop at an astounding compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 73%, reaching USD 4–5 billion by 2030. The increasing popularity of EVs and the growing acceptance of leasing as a wise substitute for ownership are both factors contributing to this development. Whether it is last-mile delivery companies upgrading their fleets or enterprises looking to optimise operational costs, EV leasing offers compelling advantages. Managing capital and operational costs EV leasing addresses one of the most significant challenges businesses face: high upfront capital expenditure. Purchasing EVs typically requires a substantial down payment, ranging from 10–25% of the vehicle's cost. Leasing, in contrast, demands only a security deposit equivalent to 3–6 months of lease payments, enabling businesses to scale their fleets with minimal initial investment. This approach not only preserves cash flow but also provides predictable monthly expenses, simplifying financial planning.

Average Swiggy order value can show double-digit growth every year for foreseeable future; no plan to raise funds now: Rahul Bothra
Rahul Bothra, CFO, and Sriharsha Majety, MD & Group CEO, Swiggy, in conversation with ET Now post announcement of Q2 results. Bothra says while some of Swiggy competitors have been raising funds, that is mostly defensive capital. Swiggy has a very strong balance sheet with Rs 8,000 crore plus cash balance existing with us. They have a profitable food delivery business that continues to accrue cash into the treasury and the quick commerce business, which is expected to turn profitable in six to seven quarters and for which they have a substantial cash balance. So, there are no near-term fundraising plans. On the overall consolidated EBITDA loss and the net loss, which has widened on a sequential basis, what is adding to the pressure on the bottom line and when can we expect the loss to start narrowing? Rahul Bothra: If you look at our overall numbers, we have improved our adjusted EBITDA by 30% in our B2C GOV businesses over the last year with an improvement of Rs 147 crore.

RIL shares down 18% from peak. Is quick commerce the biggest threat for Mukesh Ambani's retail empire?
Reliance Industries (RIL) is ending 2024 on a muted note and is down about 18% from its July peak as investors fear that the quick commerce disruption may impact billionaire Mukesh Ambani's ambitions in retail business. While refining margins, which fell sharply from June, have rebounded on the O2C side of the conglomerate’s business, Reliance Retail (RR) growth continues to disappoint and brokerages are reluctant to give it a premium valuation against other retail peers on lower near-term growth, real estate costs and capex intensity.
