New Zealand increases visa fees across categories by up to 60%, here is how it will impact student and work visas
New Zealand government has increased visa fees across all categories, effective from October 1. As a result, Indians will face higher charges while applying for work, visit or study visas in the country. The New Zealand government had made the announcement in August. Immigration Minister Erica Stanford had said were made to create a more sustainable immigration system by shifting the financial burden from taxpayers to visa applicants. “We’re ensuring the system is self-funding and more efficient,” Stanford said. “The changes we’re making are shifting the cost to those benefiting from the system.” She added that this move is expected to reduce the need for public funding by over $563 million over the next four years.

Travel insurance evolving rapidly to keep up with changing travel habits of modern travellers
travel insurance is evolving rapidly to keep up with changing travel habits of modern travellers seeking unique experiences and adventure amid a post-Covid travel boom. A new breed of policies now caters to adventurous and niche activities like golfing and scuba diving besides offering emergency coverage for pre-existing conditions, home-to-airport coverage, upgrading to business class due to health reasons and even pet care. For instance, some insurers are offering coverage that reimburses golfers for the cost of a hole-in-one celebration — a grand party a golfer must host if he/she manages to hit the ball from the tee all the way to the hole in a single stroke.

India must pivot to a new set of economic & trade policies that values human beings
economic policy framework for the next generation of reforms. That is a sensible move. India has compelling reasons to move away from a textbook framework of open economy macroeconomics. It strives for strategic autonomy in a geopolitically riven world, in which one superpower sits astride the northern border, has built supercharged industrial muscle that can smother Indian industry, and casts a covetous eye on Indian territory. India can find ready support, vis-a-vis China, in the US. However, if the US finds that India is reliant solely on American support, it would have it where China has Pakistan — by the scruff of the neck. India would have to give up all dreams of strategic autonomy.

GNPAs to improve to decadal low in FY25; MFI loans, unsecured need to be watched: Crisil
banking system is set to improve to a decadal best of 2.5 per cent in 2024-25, domestic rating agency Crisil said on Tuesday. It, however, flagged concerns around unsecured exposures like personal loans and credit cards, and also the microfinance (MFI) loans made by lenders, pointing out that the segments are witnessing a surge in stress. Credit growth is expected to moderate to 14 per cent in FY25 from 16 per cent in FY24 on the back of lower economic growth expected at 6.8 per cent as against 8.2 per cent in FY24, and the regulatory restrictions through interventions like higher risk weights on unsecured lending which has made lenders cautious, the agency said.
