Airlines are mastering the art of upsell; raw deal for basic-fare flyers
Airlines are slowly mastering the art of upselling and are ready to offer that extra to passengers who are willing to pay more for better comfort or flexibility during their trip. Both IndiGo and Air India which fly 9 out of 10 domestic passengers are rolling out multiple types of fares, where they bundle tickets along with extras. While making it costlier for those booking a basic fare- ticket, to cancel or reschedule their flights, they are lowering these costs for the higher fare bracket topping it up with extras.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu called ‘health illiterate’ by ‘Liver Doc’ for suggesting hydrogen peroxide therapy. ‘Kushi’ star reacts
Samantha Ruth Prabhu has invited the ire of the medical community on X. The 'Ye Maaya Chesave' star recently recommended her fans try the hydrogen peroxide inhalation protocol if they have come down with a viral fever. However, this medical advice was met with fierce opposition by a hepatologist called Dr Cyriac Abby Philips. Philips, who goes by the moniker ‘The Liver Doctor’ on X, slammed the 'Yasoda' actress and called her a “health and science illiterate”. “Influential Indian actress Ms. Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is, unfortunately, a health and science illiterate, advises millions of her followers to inhale hydrogen peroxide to prevent and treat respiratory viral infections,” he tweeted. Tesla deliveries set to fall for second straight quarter
June-quarter deliveries likely fell 6%, the first time the top EV maker is set to post two straight quarters of decline, as it deals with stiff competition in China and slow demand due to a lack of affordable new models. The company is expected to deliver 438,019 vehicles for the April to June period, according to an average estimate based on forecasts from 12 analysts polled by LSEG, seven of whom slashed their expectations in the past three months. The EV maker is expected to announce the results on Tuesday. Tesla has hit a speed bump after years of rapid growth that helped make it the world's most valuable automaker. It warned in January that deliveries growth in 2024 would be «notably lower» as a boost from months-long price cuts wanes.

Interoperability of set-top boxes not feasible
interoperability is not feasible in the Indian market as the existing STBs deployed by the distribution platform operators (DPOs) are non-interoperable, and deploying new interoperable STBs will be a costly affair, say industry experts. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), in its recent recommendations to the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB), reiterated that all STBs in India must, in principle, support technical interoperability. STB interoperability is the ability to change a service provider without changing the STB. Currently, customers have to purchase a new STB every time they want to shift to a new service provider. «There are two types of interoperability: technical and commercial. Technical interoperability without commercial interoperability is not feasible because the STBs remain the property of the DPOs,» said a top official with a TV distribution company, on condition of anonymity. This is not the first time Trai has made a recommendation in favour of STB interoperability. The discussion on STB interoperability has been going on since 2010, when the regulator first floated a consultation paper on the issue. «STB interoperability is a dead horse that the regulator keeps flogging. At a time when consumers have the option of moving to internet-enabled content delivery, the regulator is talking about a legacy issue that has not been implemented to this day,» said the India head of an international content security firm.

Morning Coffee: HSBC bankers have been given a nice easy schedule. UBS reveals the nightmare of AI enabled clients
Three meetings a day? Luxury! Any sell-side analyst or capital markets roadshow banker might be permitted to raise an eyebrow at the news that HSBC employees have been reminded at a company town hall meeting that it’s policy to ensure that you have at least three meetings per day to justify the travel costs. Back in the old days at UBS under Andrea Orcel , bankers were expected to log 300 meetings every year. Who goes travelling for only one or two client meetings?

Drop the angel tax: Stop taxing startup investments as income
₹1 lakh of paid-up capital at ₹1 per share, with an average pre-money valuation of ₹10 crore now would result in an issue price of ₹1,000 per share, or a premium of ₹999. But this would likely result in angel-tax notice from authorities. The tax department uses a system known as Computer-Aided Selection of Cases For Scrutiny (CASS).

Mundra Ahoy! Adani sets sail for shipbuilding
Gautam Adani is looking to start building ships at the group's flagship port at Mundra, also the country's largest, as yards in top nations such as China, South Korea and Japan are booked out until at least 2028, forcing global fleet owners to look at alternate manufacturing sites including India for new vessels. This fits in with India's ambitious bid to become a top 10 shipbuilder as per the Maritime India Vision 2030 and move into the top five by 2047 as detailed in the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision. India is currently ranked 20th in the world commercial shipbuilding market with a marginal share of 0.05%. Indian-owned and flagged ships account for about 5% of the total overseas cargo-carrying requirements of the country. Adani's previously unreported shipbuilding scheme is tucked away in the ₹45,000 crore expansion plan for Mundra Port that received environmental and coastal regulation zone clearance recently, according to the minutes of the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) attached to the ministry of environment, forest and climate change, which approved the proposal May 15.
