markets COST UPS Digital Booking Relationships International BoB expects deposits to grow at 9-11%, loans to rise 11-13%: Debadatta Chand, CEO
Debadatta Chand had the proverbial baptism by fire as CEO at India’s second largest public sector lender, Bank of Baroda (BoB), hit by the controversy over the financier’s attachment notice on actor and MP Sunny Deol just a couple of months into the top job. Then came the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) curbs on its digital banking application, restrictions that took nearly seven months to be lifted. But after a trying first year, Chand has eased into the corner-room job, seeking consistency in the bank's business matrix and reducing the lender's dependency on costlier wholesale deposits. In a detailed interview with ET, Chand spoke about BoB’s current positioning and shared his outlook for what's traditionally known as a corporate-focused lender. Edited excerpts: You will complete two years at the helm in June. How has BoB shaped up in this time? The bank is doing extremely well. Fundamentally, it is a strong bank. For the past two years, the performance has been consistent, and the outlook is stable. Earlier we (had) talked about how to double the business in 5-6 years and how to maintain margin in a dynamic market scenario. The performance has been very satisfying. The balance sheet strategy is to not to be heavily dependent on the bulk deposit. Our RAM (retail, agriculture MSME) is going very strong. We decided to go slow on fine priced corporate loans. We are capturing market share in retail loans and deposits.

markets COST Align WhatsApp wellness Experts Proposed Noida Circle rate hike to hit home buyers
Noida, Greater Noida, and Jewar will further raise the overall cost of property acquisition for homebuyers, in addition to the already rising residential property prices set by developers in these districts, experts said. Builders said the authority should also consider that the real estate industry has entered a phase of consolidation and that prices have begun to plateau. «The proposed hike in circle rates may have some impact on sales in the near future because, besides increased property rates, homebuyers will have to pay more in stamp duty charges as well. The hike, however, seems inevitable, as real estate growth in these regions has been rapid over the last few years, and the government is increasing the circle rates in line with current property values,» said Santhosh Kumar, vice chairman of Anarock Group. According to Anarock data, average residential prices in Noida have seen a significant 92% jump between the end of 2019 and the end of Q1 2025 — from ₹4,795 per sq ft in 2019 to nearly ₹9,200 per sq ft in Q1 2025. Average prices in Greater Noida have risen by a whopping 97% during the same period — from ₹3,340 per sq ft in 2019 to ₹6,600 per sq ft as of Q1 2025. «While the proposed hike aims to align circle rates with prevailing market prices, it should also consider that the market has entered a consolidation phase and prices are starting to stabilise,» said Amit Modi, director, County Group.

Host of CNBC's «Mad Money» took a clear stand against the idea, attributing the economic downfall of small towns throughout the United States to it. «I am for tariffs, plain and simple. I despise free trade,» Cramer insisted on an episode of his program, as quoted in a report by Bezinga. He continued on to say, «It's been embarrassing to our nation. It's cost us millions. Everyone takes advantage of us. There's just no limit to it.» Cramer's comments are opposite to the general assumption that free trade boosts economic growth and global cooperation. markets COST UPS economy Research Experts reports This move by Trump to make cars unaffordable for many American families. Here's why
Lower-income buyers will suffer another blow from expected hikes in used car prices as demand surges and supply shrinks. New cars priced under $30,000 are already rare as the average new-vehicle price approaches $50,000. The only way automakers can eke out profits on economy cars, analysts say, is to build them in nations with lower manufacturing costs. A Reuters review of data from two auto research firms found just 16 models with an average sticker price less than $30,000 and only one, Toyota's Corolla, that is assembled in the United States. All others are made in Mexico, South Korea, or Japan. Slapping a 25% tariff on these low-end cars may force price increases that make them unaffordable to their target market or cause some automakers to abandon them entirely, industry analysts said.

markets COST Manufacturing CEO Mobile Features US car buyers face higher prices, less choice under Trump's tariffs
«Most car makers can't eat 25%, they just can't,» said Andy Palmer, former CEO of Aston Martin. «That means car makers will pass on as much of the cost of tariffs as they can,» including by removing features to lower their costs while also raising prices. Automakers may spread that cost between U.S.-produced and imported models, cut back on features, and in some cases, stop selling affordable models aimed at first-time car buyers, as many of those are imported and less attractive if they carry a higher price tag. The changes could price more Americans out of the market. S&P Global Mobility estimated Thursday that tariffs will cause annual U.S. vehicle sales to fall to a range of 14.5 million to 15 million in coming years from 16 million in 2024. Cox Automotive estimates tariffs will add $3,000 to the cost of a U.S.-made vehicle and $6,000 to vehicles made in Canada or Mexico without exemptions. While luxury sellers like Bentley or Ferrari say they will pass on costs, major automakers' typical margins of 6% to 8% leave little wiggle room. Affordable models most likely to be affected include the Honda CR-V, Chevy Trax, Subaru Forester, Chevy Equinox and Honda HR-V, said Erin Keating, executive analyst at Cox. «Car makers know they have certain vehicles in their portfolio that can tolerate lower profit margins,» Keating said. «Some vehicles may just prove to be too expensive, and most of those are affordable models manufactured outside the U.S.»

It upheld the 2022 guidelines issued by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) that prohibited hotels and restaurants from automatically levying a 'service charge' on food bills, reinforcing that these payments must remain voluntary. Dismissing the petitions filed by the Federation of Hotels and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) and the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), which challenged the CCPA’s power to issue such guidelines, Justice Prathiba M Singh said that the Authority is not merely a recommendatory body but is fully empowered and has the jurisdiction to pass the guidelines under the CPA, 2019. “In fact, issuing guidelines in consumer interest is an essential function of CCPA and the guidelines would have to be mandatorily complied with as the scheme of the Act clearly provides for enforcement of guidelines, which would not curtail fundamental rights it held.
