GIFT Nifty came home nearly two years ago, but it still has a long way to go

India’s ambitious push to bring home trading in Nifty 50 derivatives has made limited progress in nearly two years, as many traders tempted by cost and logistical advantages keep faith in the Singapore Exchange (SGX). While the share of GIFT Nifty volumes originating from within GIFT City has nearly doubled to 33% during the period, it is still a long way from realizing the goal of attracting the majority of these trades to India.

Tariff exemption to India will push Indo-US bilateral trade: Exporters
According to reports, US President Donald Trump has said that automobile tariffs will be coming soon even as he indicated that some countries may get an exemption from reciprocal tariffs to be imposed on April 2. Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) said that India certainly deserves an exemption or waiver from reciprocal tariffs as it is constructively engaged with America at different levels and also for a Bilateral Trade Agreement. «The Mission 500 to take bilateral trade from the current level of about USD 200 billion to USD 500 billion requires a greater push for seamless trade, which the exemption will further facilitate,» FIEO Director General Ajay Sahai said. Another exporter said that the exemption to India would remove tariff uncertainties and will help further increase exports to the US.

637 projects facing delays due to various reasons: Nitin Gadkari
Bharatmala Pariyojana Scheme, have faced delays primarily due to factors like land acquisition issues and financial difficulties faced by contractors, Parliament was informed Wednesday. Besides force majeure events, scarcity of construction materials, etc have also caused delays in the projects, Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a reply to Rajya Sabha. «The implementation of 637 projects, including those under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Scheme, has faced delays...,» the Minister said. To overcome these challenges and expedite project execution, the government has undertaken various initiatives, Gadkari said… These include streamlining and expediting land acquisition process, revamping Parivesh Portal to facilitate faster forest and environmental clearances, enabling online approval of General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) of Road Over Bridge/Road Under Bridge (ROB/RUB) from the Railways, and conducting review meetings at various levels with all stakeholders, including state governments, he said. On the financial implication, Gadkari said it does not arise in every delayed project. The minister said if delay is not attributable to the contractor, price escalation is paid as per contract conditions, which may or may not result in additional cost, depending upon final value of price escalation determined on actual completion of the project.

PM Modi to inaugurate India's first vertical sea bridge in Rameswaram on Ram Navami; here’s why Pamban Bridge is special
PM Modi is set to inaugurate the new Pamban bridge, India’s first vertical sea bridge, in Tamil Nadu on April 6, coinciding with Ram Navami, a significant Hindu festival marking the birth of Lord Ram. The inauguration is expected soon after PM Modi returns from his two-day visit to Sri Lanka on April 4-5. Constructed at a cost of Rs 535 crore, this ambitious engineering project was executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). Spanning just over two kilometres, the bridge replaces the old 1914-built bridge, which had become severely corroded after over a century of service and was closed in 2022. This new bridge is expected to enhance rail connectivity to Rameswaram, one of the most sacred sites in Hinduism, associated with the legend of Lord Ram's bridge to Lanka as told in the Ramayana.

India to let mills export 1 million metric tons of sugar permitted for this year, sources say
India, the world's second-biggest sugar producer, in January set an export allowance of 1 million metric tons through September 2025, as both the government and the industry believed there was a surplus for overseas markets. Since then, industry groups have lowered their output forecasts for the current year, raising concerns about potential supply shortages and export restrictions. However, India has more than enough stocks to meet domestic consumption and ethanol requirements, which is why the government has decided that mills would be allowed to export sugar, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. «There is no reason to consider any restrictions on exports. The numbers suggest that we will have more than enough stocks throughout this year, and next year's production will anyway exceed this year's production,» one of the sources said.

Last-minute tax-saving idea for FY25: Can ELSS mutual funds still be a good fit into your portfolio?
ELSS) mutual funds stand out among other tax-saving instruments under Section 80C due to their unique combination of equity exposure, a short lock-in period, and potential for high returns. “Unlike the Public Provident Fund (PPF), which has a 15-year lock-in and offers fixed returns (currently around 7%-8%), ELSS funds have a much shorter lock-in of just 3 years and historically deliver average annualized returns of 10%-12%, higher in some cases,” said Adhil Shetty, CEO of Bankbazaar.com. “Since ELSS returns are market-linked and volatile in the short term, investing through SIP is wise. SIPs help mitigate market timing risk by averaging purchase costs during market highs and lows,” he added.
