Congress alleges corruption as RTI revels Railways spent ₹69 lakh in two years to ‘catch rats’
Indian Railways after a recent RTI query revealed that the Lucknow division of the Northern Railways spent ₹69.5 lakh between 2020 and 2022 "to catch rats". Reacting to the RTI reply, Surjewala took to X (formally known as Twitter) and wrote, “Railways spent ₹41,000 and six days in catching a rat! By spending a total of ₹69.40 lakh, 156 rats were caught in 3 years! This is the condition of the Lucknow region alone." "All over the country, the ‘rats of corruption’ are picking people's pockets every day… Result: Under BJP rule, people are hit by rampant inflation every day. Even the concession given to the elderly in rail fares has been eaten away! Still, he says - ‘Neither will I eat nor will I let you eat..’ !" Surjewala added.

US International Development Finance Corporation sanctions $20 million loan for Ummeed Housing Finance
US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has sanctioned a $20 million long term loan for Gurgaon-based Ummeed Housing Finance to fund housing needs of the economically weaker and middle-income groups. The American funding body will provide the debt at a 4.25% fixed rate for 15 years, Ummeed's founder and managing director Ashutosh Sharma said. «This DFC facility would allow us to extend longer tenure credit to the underbanked population to assist with home purchases, construction, and extension. This will also help us diversify the wagon wheel of liability while the funding is attractive from an interest rate perspective,» Sharma told ET. The all blended cost of this borrowing including the hedging cost for five years would be anything between 8-9%, he said.

The world is struggling to make enough diesel
oil refiners are proving powerless to make enough diesel, opening a new inflationary front and depriving economies of a fuel that powers industry and transport alike. While oil futures are rocketing — on Friday they were just below $95 a barrel in London — the rally pales in comparison with the surge in diesel. US prices jumped above $140 to the highest ever for this time of year on Thursday. Europe’s equivalent soared 60% since summer. And it could get worse. Saudi Arabia and Russia have turned down the taps on production of crudes that are richer in diesel. On Sept. 5, both nations — leaders in the OPEC+ alliance — announced they would prolong those curbs through year-end, a period in which demand for the fuel usually picks up. “We’re at risk of seeing continued tightness in the market, especially for distillates, coming into the winter months,” said Toril Bosoni, head of the oil market division at the International Energy Agency, referring to the category of fuel that includes diesel. “Refineries are struggling to keep up.” The situation is challenging for a global refining fleet that’s been dogged by lackluster production for months. Searing Northern-Hemisphere heat this summer forced many plants to run at a slower pace than normal, leaving stockpiles stunted. There’s also been pressure on them to make other products instead like jet fuel and gasoline, where demand has rebounded hard, according to Callum Bruce, an analyst at Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
