COST Strategy Experts country social travelers Goodbye US, Hello India. Tired of high costs in America, his family now enjoys Goa’s luxury for just Rs 1 lakh a month
Taking to LinkedIn, Elliot Rosenberg shared how a daring move he made 12 years ago changed his life for the better. He explained that while most personal finance experts emphasize strategies such as budgeting expenses, making long-term investments, and establishing multiple income streams to achieve financial independence and early retirement, he recognized a significant challenge: the high cost of living in America. Although inflation played a role in rising expenses, he believed that the real issue lay in “lifestyle creep.” In many social circles, there seemed to be an unspoken expectation to maintain a costly social life—frequenting upscale restaurants, purchasing event tickets, indulging in shopping sprees, or joining expensive recreational clubs. The pressure to sustain these expenditures often dictated friendships and social acceptance.

markets COST Yellow Opinion Trade love Gold Price Paradox: A $13 billion naked short on yellow metal in India that loves glitter
That something, the mandarins reckoned, could only be a government-backed investment option that allowed investors to earn some cash while speculating on the price of their best-loved commodity — without actually having to buy it. But the officials forgot a cardinal rule. If a trade looks too good to be true, it probably is. As it’s becoming painfully evident now, India’s 10-year-old sovereign gold bond program is just a $13 billion naked short position for the government, an albatross around its neck at a time when bullion prices have gone parabolic and show no sign of subsiding. It’s the taxpayers who are on the hook for paying that money to bondholders. This wasn’t how the program was supposed to run. The special debt, it was decided, would pay a 2.75% coupon (reduced later to 2.5%), and the investment itself would be measured in grams of gold. Upon redemption eight years later, investors would be given the prevailing market value of the metal in rupee terms.

COST Manufacturing Boeing awards show Department Trump to award US Air Force's next-generation fighter jet contract on Friday, sources say
The Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program will replace Lockheed Martin's F-22 Raptor with a crewed aircraft built to enter combat alongside drones. The plane's design remains a closely held secret, but would most likely include stealthiness, advanced sensors and cutting-edge engines. Lockheed and Boeing are competing for the winner-take-all engineering and manufacturing development contract, worth more than $20 billion. The winner will eventually receive hundreds of billions of dollars in orders over the contract's multi-decade lifetime. For Boeing, a win would mark a sharp reversal of fortunes for a company that has struggled on both the commercial and defense sides of its business; a loss could be devastating. A victory for Lockheed Martin, the world's largest defense contractor, would keep its high-end offerings — it also makes the stealthy F-35 — on an upward trajectory. An Air Force spokesperson and Boeing and Lockheed representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

COST UPS Target Food show Japan's core inflation hits 3% in February, keeps alive BOJ rate-hike bets
The data came in the wake of Bank of Japan (BOJ) Governor Kazuo Ueda's warning, made after its decision to keep interest rates steady on Wednesday, that rising food costs and stronger-than-expected wage growth could push up underlying inflation. The increase in the core consumer price index (CPI), which strips away the effect of volatile fresh food costs, compared with a median market forecast of a 2.9% gain. That kept core inflation above the BOJ's 2% target for the 35th straight month. It slowed from the previous month's 3.2% rise due largely to the resumption of subsidies to curb fuel costs, government data showed on Friday. A separate index that excludes the effects of both fresh food and fuel costs, closely watched by the BOJ as a broader price trend indicator, rose 2.6% in February from a year earlier after climbing 2.5% in January. It was the fastest year-on-year increase since March 2024, when it rose 2.9%.
