Google Doodle marks FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. See details
Google Doodle is celebrating the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The doodle was first unveiled on the opening day and has now been displayed again during the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Hosted by Australia and New Zealand, this marks the ninth edition of the Women’s World Cup. The inaugural women’s football championship by FIFA took place in 1991. Before that, in 1988, FIFA organized an Invitation Tournament in China as a test. Encouraged by its success, FIFA moved forward with plans for an official women’s world championship, though it hesitated to label it as the World Cup back then. The US claimed victory in the first Women’s World Cup, triumphing over Norway 2-1 in Guangzhou. England entered the scene in the 1995 Women’s World Cup, facing Nigeria in a knockout match. They secured a 3-2 win. However, their journey was halted by Germany in the quarter-finals, resulting in a 0-3 loss. Germany advanced to the final but was defeated by Norway, marking the first European nation to clinch the Women’s World Cup. In its celebration, Google recognized the significance of the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. It sent best wishes to all participating national teams, saying, “The world is watching with flags in their hands and hope in their hearts!” Commencing on July 20, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 reached the quarter-final stage on August 11. The final is scheduled for August 20. The Lionesses advanced to the semi-finals by overcoming Colombia in the quarter-finals, putting them two matches away from winning the championship. The team has already secured victories against Haiti, Denmark, China, and Nigeria – but the true challenge lies ahead.

Scientists around the country are racing to learn how to use animal organs to save human lives, and bodies donated for research offer a remarkable rehearsal. The latest experiment announced Wednesday by NYU Langone Health marks the longest a pig kidney has functioned in a person, albeit a deceased one — and it's not over.

Modi replaced N with P of 'pettiness, peeve': Congress on NMML being renamed
Congress and the BJP crossed swords on Wednesday over the renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library with the opposition party accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of «distorting and destroying» the Nehruvian legacy and the ruling party dismissing the criticism as a «lament of courtiers». The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) has officially been renamed as the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library Society with effect from August 14. The Congress said despite the «relentless assault», India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's legacy will live on for the world to see and he will continue to inspire the generations to come. History is created, it is never changed or converted, the opposition party asserted. In a post on X, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, «From today, an iconic institution gets a new name. The world-renowned Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) becomes PMML — Prime Ministers' Memorial Museum and Library.» «Mr Modi possesses a huge bundle of fears, complexes and insecurities, especially when it comes to our first and longest-serving Prime Minister. He has had a single-point agenda of denying, distorting, defaming and destroying Nehru and the Nehruvian legacy,» Ramesh said.
