In a tragic incident, a suicide bomber targeted a political rally of the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in Bajaur district, Pakistan, that killed at least 44 and left nearly 200 people wounded. The rally was being held in the town of Khar, a former stronghold of militants in Pakistan's north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The explosion occurred as hundreds of supporters of the JUI-F party, led by an influential firebrand cleric, had gathered under a canopy for the event.

NEW DELHI : The central government may triple subsidy allocation for electric vehicle (EV) purchases in the third edition of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) programme amid the rising popularity of EVs in India. Allocation for the FAME III scheme may jump to around ₹30,000 crore from ₹10,000 crore earmarked for the current FAME II scheme, two people close to the matter said, adding that consultations have just started and the final allocation has not been decided. Charging infrastructure would also gain significant focus, with allocation at least doubling from the second phase, one of the two people said.

GANDHINAGAR : The Union government is evaluating a proposal to include large multinational companies in India’s $200 million design-linked incentive (DLI) scheme if they were designing chips in the country, said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and information technology (IT). The scheme is currently limited to startups. Under the scheme, seven startups have been given approvals for claiming incentives.

New Delhi: Russia’s largest integrated petrochemicals company PJSC Sibur Holding’s plan to build a large petrochemical plant with state-run Indian Oil Corp. Ltd (IOC) at Paradip has hit a roadblock due to the sanctions amid ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, said two people aware of the development. The two partners were slated to sign an agreement for the facility but Sibur, also Russia’s largest liquefied petroleum gas producer, has kept its plan on hold following the sanctions on Moscow amid the Ukraine war.
