Disney's plan comes just as streaming rival Netflix in May started telling subscribers in more than 100 countries they will need to pay more to share the service with people outside their household, the Reuters reported. In India, a premium account of Disney+ Hotstar streaming service still allows logins on as many as 10 devices, even though its website currently says «number of devices that can be logged in» is four, as per a Reuters report.

India's per capita income is expected to increase 1.6 times to $4,000, or about ₹3.2 lakh, by 2030, turning the country into an upper-middle income country, Standard Chartered economists said in a report on Friday. «We expect India's GDP to double to $6 trillion before the end of this decade, making it the world's third-largest economy,» it said. Household consumption then would be closer to $3-3.5 billion, or India's GDP in 2022.

Worldcoin crypto already under scrutiny in Europe
Worldcoin crypto project of OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman is already under scrutiny by European regulators over its reliance on an eye scan to verify a user's identity, France's data protection agency said Friday. Worldcoin's launch on Monday comes as the cryptocurrency industry is suffering hard times after the spectacular collapse of FTX and various legal cases against the sector's biggest players. Using eye scans, it tries to solve one of the main challenges facing the crypto industry: a level of anonymity so high that makes it vulnerable to scams and spam bots — which AI threatens to make exponentially worse.

Rains may dip in August, but crops won't be hit: Experts
However, as the soil moisture has risen in July, lesser August rainfall won't negatively impact the crops, said agricultural experts. «The July rainfall has boosted the soil moisture to healthy levels and so a lull of 15-20 days won't be harmful for the crops,» said Tanmay Kumar Deepak, head of research, Agriwatch, an agri research firm that works with over a million farmers across the country. The excess July rain has replenished reservoirs and can support irrigational activities in the next few weeks, he added.

Sony announces major PS5 price drop in multiple countries. Here are all details
Sony has rolled out a substantial price cut for its highly sought-after PlayStation 5 console in several countries, including the UK, Ireland and Germany. The company aims to make the gaming experience more accessible to enthusiasts, with a markdown of approximately 16 per cent on the standard PS5 model. In the UK, gamers can now get their hands on the PS5 for £399.99, down from its regular price of £479.99. Notably, it was launched at £449.99. The promotional offer is available immediately in the UK and will run until August 10. Germany is also partaking in the price drop, with a discount of €75 on the PS5. Amazon Germany, in particular, is offering an even more attractive price of €459.99, significantly below the regular €549.99 pricing, until August 7. It extends to Ireland and Austria, where consumers can save €75. The timing of these price drop promotions coincides with Sony's announcement of a major milestone. The company has successfully sold 40 million PS5 units since the console's initial launch in 2020. This surge in sales can be attributed to the increased shipments in the current year. Sony revealed that it tripled the number of consoles shipped from January to March, reaching 6.3 million units as opposed to 2 million during the same period the previous year.

Property poor in cottage country: Why legacy landowners can't keep their land
PORT CARLING, Ont. — Gord Carr set some old family photos on a wooden counter inside the Carr Greenhouse on Carr Road, a garden centre on the periphery of Port Carling, Ont. It was a sweltering Sunday afternoon in prime Ontario cottage country, doubly so inside the greenhouse, where Carr and his younger sister and business partner Leslie and their respective common-law spouses, Heidi Berninger and Kevin Broad, were doing what they typically do 10 or more hours a day, seven days a week, during the tourism high season: working.

India, UK to discuss IPR issues in Aug trade talks
Mint had reported that India may not budge from its opposition to the provisions on regulatory data protection as well as patent extension during the free trade talks with the EU and UK. Regulatory data protection or data exclusivity have been among EU’s demands since 2013 but continues to be a red line for India. Patent term extension allows secondary patenting or ‘evergreening’, a technique used by companies to prevent the entry of generic drugmakers.

US power generators burn record amounts of natural gas on hottest day of summer
power generators will likely burn a record amount of natural gas for a second day in a row on Friday, the hottest day so far this summer, as homes and businesses crank up their air conditioners to escape a brutal heatwave blanketing much of the country this week. Extreme weather reminds consumers of the fatal freeze in February 2021 that left millions of Texans without power, water and heat for days and a brutal heatwave in August 2020 that forced the California power grid operator to impose rotating outages that affected about 800,000 customers over two days. As soaring demand stresses electric grids this summer, next-day power prices soared to their highest since January in Southern California and their highest since February in New England, according to data provider Refinitiv.
