93 per cent of Gen Alpha, Gen Z shape family travel plans in India, says report
Family travel in India is increasingly guided by the preferences of Gen Alpha and Gen Z, revealed a new survey that found an overwhelming 93 per cent of young travellers are now actively contributing to their family's vacation planning. The findings, part of «Small Voices, Big Choices: Hilton 2025 Trends Report», suggest a significant shift in family travel planning with India's youngest generation taking the charge and shaping the future of the travel industry. «A striking 93 per cent of Generation Alpha and Generation Z in India actively shape family travel plans, now positioning them as key decision-makers in the travel process,» reads the report, adding that 76 per cent of Indian parents (compared to 70 per cent globally) choose vacation destinations based on their children's interests. Generation Alpha, aged 14 and younger, accounts for a quarter of India's population, while Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, represents 30 per cent.

Black Diwali for China? Modi's exhortation and India-China trade
Narendra Modi has appealed to the people to use ‘Made in India’ products during the ongoing festive season. Starting with Ganesh Chaturthi, the festive season will last nearly two months and include Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath. This is the time when cheap Made-in-China goods flood Indian market. PM Modi has asked people to buy not just earthen lamps. «Merely buying earthen lamps is not ‘Vocal for Local'. You should promote local products made in your area more and more. Any such product, that has been made with the sweat of an Indian artisan, that is made on Indian soil, is our pride –– we always have to lend glory to this pride,” he said.

Asset reconstruction companies ought to focus on reviving distressed businesses
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Asset reconstruction companies (ARCs) in India have long been perceived as vehicles solely for the recovery of bad loans, with limited scope beyond securing delinquent assets. Instead of just being agents that buy non-performing loans from lenders for recovery, ARCs should evolve to their full potential into entities that not only recover assets, but also rehabilitate and turn around distressed businesses.

Hybrid car sales surge amid global policy push
Policy push by various countries and stricter emission norms are fuelling electric vehicle sales every year across key global markets, shows data from the International Energy Agency. However, penetration of hybrids (including strong hybrids and plug-in hybrids), driven purely by consumer choice, are climbing up at a faster pace. Since 2021, hybrid vehicle sales have been rising steadily in China, Japan, Korea, UK, France, and US, underscoring growing consumer preference for this technology, shows data collated by Nomura Research Institute. China leads the trend with a nearly fourfold surge in hybrid penetration levels to 19.9% in the first half of 2024 from 5.3% in 2021. Korea too has seen a big jump — to 25.2% from 11.8% in the same period. Other markets have shown a similar growth trajectory.

PM Modi urges people to buy 'Made in India' products during festive season
Made in India' products during the forthcoming festive season that will last nearly two months and includes Navratra, Dussehra, Diwali, Chhat and other occasions where cheap articles made in China have been flooding the market in the last few years. In his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' address, the PM said, «Friends, in this festive season you can once again reiterate your old resolves. Anything you buy, should necessarily be 'Made in India'… Anything you gift, that too should be 'Made In India'. Merely buying earthen lamps is not 'Vocal for Local'. You should promote local products made in your area more and more. Any such product, that has been made with the sweat of an Indian artisan, that is made on Indian soil, is our pride — we always have to lend glory to this pride.» His remarks come against the backdrop of China-made idols of gods, decorative lights and other products which come at a low cost but eat into the market of indigenous products. Modi also referred to the completion of a decade of the 'Make in India' initiative where all segments, from big industries to small shopkeepers have made a contribution to its success.

Pope Francis suggests Israel's actions in Gaza and Lebanon are disproportionate and immoral
Pope Francis suggested Sunday that Israel's attacks in Gaza and Lebanon have been «immoral» and disproportionate, saying its military domination has gone beyond the rules of war. Francis was asked en route home from Belgium about Israel's targeted killing of one of Hezbollah's founding members, Hassan Nasrallah. Friday's strike in Beirut targeted an area greater than a city block and reduced several residential buildings to rubble, and at least six other deaths have been confirmed. Francis didn't mention Israel by name and said he was speaking in general terms. But he said that «the defense must always be proportionate to the attack.»

HAL's advanced light helicopters to join offshore missions of ONGC
advanced light helicopter (ALH) programme, the chopper has been chosen to undertake offshore missions for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), beating several foreign competitors for the requirement to fly out personnel and equipment to oil rigs in the open seas. The helicopters will be operated by Pawan Hans Limited, which will initially place an order for 10, with the total requirement expected to cross 28 in the coming years. The order will open up a new civilian market for the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) chopper that is extensively used by the armed forces, with over 340 of the machines flying all over the country — from naval ships to high altitude helipads on the northern borders. Sources said the bid by Pawan Hans, offering ALH for offshore missions, emerged as technically compliant and the lowest priced, and has taken major foreign suppliers who dominated the market in the past by surprise.

End of Special status welcome, but jobs, outsiders, dip in tourism, increase in terror incidents a worry for Jammu
While Jammu has arguably been a bigger gainer of the removal of special status as the power balance with the Valley has ostensibly been reduced, there are many issues that plague the minds of people living in the lower altitudes. High unemployment and lack of jobs commensurate with the education levels is a big worry for the youth. Many young people that ET talked to said they and their peers are working in other parts of the country or going to Singapore, Australia, Canada and the European countries for low-end jobs. Agniveer has also caused a lot of resentment. “Earlier there used to be so many boys running on the roads early in the morning to practice for joining the army but now you hardly see any youngsters doing so. There is not much interest in becoming an Agniveer,” said Narendra Sharma, the PDP candidate in RS Pura, Jammu.

Spotlight on Indian visas in race to replace Rishi Sunak as UK Opposition Leader
Rishi Sunak as Conservative Party leader and take his place in the House of Commons as Leader of the Opposition have thrown the spotlight on cutting immigration into the UK, with visas for Indians being singled out in heated debates. Against the backdrop of the launch of the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham on Sunday, former immigration minister Robert Jenrick singled out India as one of the countries that should be subjected to tough visa restrictions across all categories unless it takes back its nationals who enter Britain illegally. His closest contender, shadow housing secretary Kemi Badenoch, has also zeroed in on the same issue and condemned new migrants bringing their disputes from India to cause unrest on the streets of the country. «It is quite clear that there are many people who have recently come to this country who have brought views from their countries of origin that have no place here,» Badenoch told the BBC.
