How Canada is turning from a dream destination to a nightmare
Jobs crisis Temporary residents and recent immigrants are driving up Canada’s unemployment rate, as record numbers of newcomers welcomed to the country to fill labor shortages are now struggling to find work, Bloomberg has reported. The unemployment rate for temporary residents – including foreign workers, international students and asylum seekers – was 11% in June, according to Bloomberg calculations. Using comparable data, the unemployment rate for all workers was just 6.2% last month. Immigrants who’ve landed in the last five years are also having a hard time finding a job, with their unemployment rate reaching 12.6% in June.

ECB's next rate cut an easy decision before choices become hard, Wunsch says
Bank's next interest rate cut is still a relatively easy decision, but subsequent moves should only come once inflation is clearly heading towards the 2% target, ECB policymaker Pierre Wunsch said in an interview. The ECB cut rates in early June but made no commitment about any further moves, arguing inflation was still too high and it lacked the confidence that 2% was within reach.

Can the Labour Party bring back Britain’s green groove?
Britain, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, erstwhile coal-burning imperial behemoth, wants to be a “clean energy superpower.” At least that’s the promise of the man poised to be the next prime minister, Keir Starmer. His Labour Party was projected to win the parliamentary elections Thursday, ending 14 years of Conservative Party rule. Labour made big campaign promises on climate. How that actually plays out will be felt not only in the daily lives of people in Britain, but also on the nation’s standing in the world.

Make no mistake, Russia failing in this war: US President Joe Biden
Joe Biden on Tuesday announced a historic donation of air-defence equipment for Ukraine and said Russia is failing in this war. Welcoming leaders of NATO member countries for the historic summit on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, Biden said the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Italy will provide Ukraine with the equipment for five additional strategic air-defence systems. In the coming months, the US and its partners intend to provide Ukraine with dozens of additional tactical air-defence systems, he said, adding that the US will make sure that when «we export critical air-defence interceptors, Ukraine goes to the front of the line». «They will get this assistance before anyone else gets it. All told, Ukraine will receive hundreds of additional interceptors over the next year, helping protect Ukrainian cities against Russian missile and Ukrainian troops facing air attacks on their front lines,» Biden said.

'Corrupt will not be spared...': MoS Bhagirath Choudhary after SC grants interim bail to Delhi CM
Arvind Kejriwal in a case related to the now-scrapped excise policy. Reacting to this, Bhagirath Choudhary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, affirmed that action will be taken against all corrupt individuals, regardless of their party affiliation. Choudhary stated, «Those who are corrupt will not be spared. PM Modi's vision is to make India corruption-free. Action will be taken against the corrupt from any party.» He criticized Kejriwal, alleging a stark transformation from his activist days with Anna Hazare to his current lifestyle. «Kejriwal, who once walked in slippers protesting against Congress, has now spent a fortune on his luxury residence. Be it the liquor scam or Janata clinics, his corrupt practices are evident,» Choudhary added. Choudhary reminisced about the anti-corruption protests led by Anna Hazare and Kejriwal, expressing disappointment in Kejriwal's alleged shift from those ideals. «He may have received interim bail, but once a corrupt leader, always a corrupt leader. These corrupt individuals will face justice. Till they are rooted out, our country cannot progress,» he asserted.

In France, investors get the centrist limbo they wanted
When it comes to France’s turbulent politics, the current impasse is probably the best investors could have hoped for. The second round of French legislative elections delivered a widely expected hung parliament, but not its predicted makeup: Rather than coming in first, Marine Le Pen’s far-right and anti-immigrant National Rally finished third. In a shock twist, the leftist New Popular Front alliance emerged victorious, with the party of President Emmanuel Macron and its allies in second place.
