Jaishankar on Friday stressed the need for global stability, suggesting that the last thing that the world needs to see is «any kind of disturbance», a statement that came amid increasing tensions in the Taiwan Strait in the wake of growing Chinese aggression, Jaishankar's remarks came in response to a question during an interaction at the Nikkei Forum in Japan. He was in Tokyo on a three-day visit. Explaining India's response to a Taiwan contingency as a partner of Japan, Jaishankar said, «Today, the state of the world is very disturbed. We are seeing conflicts. We saw Covid. There are very big economic issues which are below the surface. The last thing that the world needs to see is any kind of disturbance, you know, at this moment. How to strengthen the stability and the growth and development of the world should be a common objective.»

Government exempts certain exporting units from quality control orders with conditions
authorisation holders and export-oriented units (EOUs) from mandatory quality control orders for imported goods that are used as inputs for exports. It said that the exemption will be with pre-import conditions, and those inputs will be utilised in the manufacturing of the export products. «Enabling provisions are made for exempting inputs imported by Advance Authorisation holders and EOUs from mandatory Quality Control Orders (QCOs),» the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification. The unutilised material will be destroyed in the presence of jurisdictional GST/customs authorities, it added.

Government notifies changes in competition law related to M&As
competition law with respect to mergers and acquisitions that are also expected to reduce the regulatory burden on the Competition Commission of India (CCI). Notifications have been issued by the corporate affairs ministry related to Section 5 of the competition law. Section 5 pertains to combinations. Vaibhav Choukse, Partner and Head of Competition Law at JSA Advocates and Solicitors, said it is an important development concerning M&As in the country. «The government has increased the existing financial thresholds as prescribed under Section 5 of the Competition Act by 150 per cent. Further, the De Minimis or the Small Target Exemption thresholds have also been increased. This is in line with the government motto of ease of doing business in India as less M&A deals would require CCI approval,» he said.

Government to boost funds for India Semiconductor Mission, says MeitY Secretary
Indian Semiconductor Mission or ISM scheme, from the current ₹ 76,000 crore, following the growing popularity worldwide. “We can increase funding when the ISM scheme gets exhausted. Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The Congress party, in its initial list, has disclosed the candidates for seven out of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka ahead of the forthcoming general elections. Prior to the announcement, KPCC president and deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar indicated that the party had submitted 14 names for clearance from the high command.
