ET Now GBS 2024: Work-life balance top priority of young workers over being a CEO
young workers prioritise work-life-balance over being a chief executive, said Tapan Singhel, chief executive, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance at the summit on Saturday during a panel discussion on «Power Shifts to Profits: The Age of Meritocracy». «Being a CEO is not their (young people's) life anymore,» he added, and there has been a generational transition from the concept of "work is worship" towards work-life balance. He mentioned Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy's comments on working 70 hours a week, while pointing out that developed countries like Germany are experimenting with a four-day work week. «Most young workers consider work life balance important, » Singhel said.

U-19 Final: India's formidable young turks gear up for World Cup glory against Aussies
ICC U-19 World Cup when they face Australia in the summit clash here. On November 19 last year, an Australian team left Rohit Sharma and his band teary-eyed on a global stage and for the Uday Saharans, Sachin Dhas, Musheer Khans and Saumykumar Pandeys, beating an Aussie team would certainly be very sweet. «No, we are not thinking about revenge. We are firmly focussed on present and we neither want to dwell on past or look too far ahead,» skipper Saharan recently told PTI Bhasha in Benoni. The Aussies have a quartet which could spell trouble for India and they are skipper Hugh Weibgen, opener Harry Dixon, seamers Tom Straker and Callum Vidler, the consistent performers during this edition.

ET Now GBS 2024: Tremendous scope for mutual fund industry in India, says Jenny Johnson, CEO, Franklin Templeton
Franklin Templeton's top boss Jenny Johnson can't wait for the India opportunity to unfold where she believes the mutual fund industry has tremendous scope for growth and credits her fund management company for spotting the country's vast potential 27 years ago when it became the first foreign fund manager to start operations. «Only 5% of the population has mutual funds. So, we are incredibly excited about how the future is going to be,» said Johnson, chief executive officer of the $1.4 trillion global investment management giant. Johnson, who has lived in India briefly during her long career with Franklin Templeton, said she had really seen the country grow over the past 27 years. «There was a saying India grows at night while the government sleeps. I would laugh at that because I always believed there is huge potential in the economy. 56% of the population is under 25. You have a British-oriented legal system,» she said. Citing how remarkably things have changed, she said the country, which earlier faced headwinds because the government was blamed for slowing things down, now has a tailwind.

Will Modi-Sharif chemistry transform India-Pakistan ties?
Imran Khan have outperformed the other two major parties, PML-N of Nawaz Sharif and PPP of Bilawal Bhtto Zardari, Sharif is likely to become the next prime minister by forging an alliance with the PPP and pulling away independent winners. Neither of the two parties nor the independent winners will have enough numbers to reach a majority. Khan's party PTI did not fight elections on its own as it had lost its election symbol but its candidates fought as independents. Elections in Pakistan were marred by violence, suspension of the internet and alleged manipulation of results. Khan's party, PTI, has claimed that the military rigged the election to prop up Sharif as the prime minister. The wheelings and dealings for the government formation kicked off after the results indicated a hung parliament in Pakistan. Notably, both Imran and Sharif have claimed victory in the polls and are talking about forming a government.

MPs term 17th Lok Sabha as 'historic'; Article 370, triple talaq, Ram temple highlights
Lok Sabha on Saturday hailed the tenure as «historic» and recalled Article 370, triple talaq, Ram temple and the new Parliament building as the highlights. Poonam Mahajan, Mumbai North Central MP, said, «I feel blessed to be an MP in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's era. We can see things happening the way it was never before. The impact on social reforms, economic reforms and reforms with which we can take the farmers, youth and women forward. As many as 25 crore people have come above poverty line, which is the biggest achievement.» Asked what was the highlight when it comes to legislative business, she said, «Article 370 was abrogated. It was connected more with our hearts. Kashmir has suffered many years of bad politics of Congress. Triple talaq bill was about equality for women, that is what we are looking for.» «The past five years have been very good. Of course, travel was disrupted in between during COVID but still we managed and the session went on. It was very very successful. I was part of two Lok Sabhas — 16th and 17th. I met so many people and intellectuals… became friends beyond party lines and got to learn a lot. I liked being here,» Mathura MP Hema Malini said.

Independent observer monitoring Pakistan elections highlight grey areas in poll process
Pakistan elections on Saturday highlighted various grey areas in the recently held polls, noting the failure of presiding officers in providing Form 45 to observers at 29 per cent of the polling stations. Form 45, commonly referred to as the «Result of the Count» form, is a crucial record in the Pakistani electoral process which is intended to uphold openness and accountability by documenting and disclosing the outcomes of the voting procedure at a particular polling place. Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) spokesperson Musarrat Qadeem, quoting the initial report on the election, in a press conference said: «The failure to display copies of Form 45, as required, in 29 per cent of polling stations was a notable oversight.»

BJP's 'Jai Shri Ram' chants reflect hatred, anger: Gaurav Gogoi
Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday attacked the BJP saying the chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' by its members reflect anger and hatred, and urged it to shun the tradition of worshipping Nathuram Godse, Mahatma Gandhi's assassin. Participating in the debate in the Lok Sabha on the construction of historic Ram Temple and Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ram Lala, Gogoi said Lord Ram belongs to everyone and is with everyone all the time. «He is in every part of us every moment,» Gogoi said. The deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha said the definition of «Ram Rajya» means an era when everyone is happy and no one is unhappy.
