Earth to warm up to 2.9C even with current climate pledges: UN
UN said Monday, urging G20 nations to boost emissions cuts. The UN Environment Programme's annual Emissions Gap report is released just ahead of crucial COP28 climate talks in Dubai and will feed into the global response to a sobering official «stocktake» of the failure to curb warming so far. With this year expected to be the hottest in human history, UNEP said «the world is witnessing a disturbing acceleration in the number, speed and scale of broken climate records». Taking into account countries' carbon-cutting plans, UNEP warned that the planet is on a path for disastrous heating of between 2.5C and 2.9C by 2100.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson 'bamboozled' by science, COVID-19 inquiry told
Boris Johnson, the former British prime minister, struggled to come to grips with much of the science during the coronavirus pandemic, his chief scientific advisor said Monday. In keenly awaited testimony to the country's public inquiry into the COVID-19 pandemic, Patrick Vallance said he and others faced repeated problems getting Johnson to understand the science and that he changed his mind on numerous occasions. «I think I'm right in saying that the prime minister gave up science at 15,» he said. «I think he'd be the first to admit it wasn't his forte and that he struggled with the concepts and we did need to repeat them — often.» Extracts from Vallace's mostly contemporaneous diary of the time were relayed to the inquiry.

EUR/USD Bulls Charge Ahead as Fed Easing Bets Intensify
The EUR/USD pair is likely to be among the more active currency pairs this week, which I am expecting to potentially rise to the 1.10 handle amid improved risk sentiment and recent falls in US yields and the US dollar. Although the economic situation in the eurozone remains far from convincing, the market may have gotten ahead of itself with regard to ECB rate cuts being priced in as early as April.

We hope to launch the 11-month contracts by January: Rohit Bajaj, IEX
Rohit Bajaj, Executive Director — Business Development,Strategy and Regulatory Affairs, IEX, says Now that the new regulation has come, this is GNA regulation where you can avail, you can take open access or you can schedule power up to 11 months in advance under short-term market. What we are doing is taking advantage of the regulation which is there, which is very market-friendly regulation, we are going to apply very shortly. “We are hoping that by January, we should be in a position to launch this contract.” The volume growth that you have clocked in has been fairly encouraging. Do you think that we can see a further margin expansion owing to the operating leverage? This last quarter was very good for us, Q2, where we registered close to 15% growth in overall volume terms. And after that, in October, we saw a huge demand increase. So on a year-on-year basis, the overall country's demand increased by about 22% and we got the lion's share of it. Our volume also increased by 20% in October. In the first seven months, we are at 12% and going forward as the supply constraint will further ease out because November, December, January, February, are generally the months where large supplies come in as not all the states are drawing.
