Boult set to cut supply chain dependence on China
Boult expects dependence on the Chinese supply chain is set to decline sharply as component manufacturing picks up pace in India, with local value addition around 15% compared with zero in early 2022. Boult cofounder Tarun Gupta told ET that this has been the trend since the Make-in-India initiative kicked off. To be sure, while some components such as batteries are sourced locally, most of the component supply chain is still in China. “Before early 2022, virtually everything was coming from China,” Gupta said.

At around 7%, wage increase in India in 2022 was higher than global average: Report
wages increase by 7.2% on average in 2022 compared with 7% for women, according to a new report. Globally, the paycheque increase was 6.7% on average for men compared with 6% for women, says the ‘ADP Research Institute's People at Work 2023: A Global Workforce View’ report. The report, based on a survey of more than 32,000 workers across 17 countries, shows that the gender pay gap in India was lower than the global average. It says male and female workers in India expect their pay cheques to increase at the same rate-- 8%--over the next 12 months. Some 63% of the Indian survey participants expressed confidence in their company's advancement toward achieving gender pay equality over the last three years. This surpasses countries in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, with Australia at 34%, China at 51% and Singapore at 31%. While men received slightly higher pay raises last year, they are still more inclined than women to express dissatisfaction with their compensation.

The reform plans, currently under consideration, are expected to be officially outlined this week as part of the ongoing efforts to reduce net migration levels, according to a report in The Telegraph. Currently, workers outside shortage occupations require a minimum salary of £26,200 to take up jobs in the UK—a figure notably below the median wage of £33,000.

Parliamentary panel gives stamp of approval to Hindi names for proposed criminal laws
parliamentary panel has held that the Hindi names given to the three proposed criminal laws is not unconstitutional, dismissing criticism against the move by some political parties and their leaders. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs headed by BJP MP Brijlal has taken note of the wording of Article 348 of the Constitution, which says that the language to be used in the Supreme Court and in the high courts, as well as for Acts, Bills and other legal documents shall be in English language. «The committee finds that as the text of the Sanhita is in English, it does not violate the provisions of Article 348 of the Constitution. The committee is satisfied with the response of the Ministry of Home Affairs and holds that the name given to the proposed legislation is not in violation of Article 348 of the Constitution of India,» the panel said in its report submitted to Rajya Sabha. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS-2023), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS-2023) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA-2023) were introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 11. The proposed laws will replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Criminal Procedure Act, 1898, and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 respectively. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram had questioned the rationale behind the central government giving Hindi names to the bills. «I am not saying Hindi names must not be given (to bills).

3 sectors where Ajay Srivastava is waiting for dips to buy
Ajay Srivastava, CEO, Dimensions Corporate Finance Services, says there are three sectors where he will love to buy on dips. One is MNC infrastructure stocks. Three or four of them qualify in that category straightaway. Number two, are companies like the payment system and the food delivery companies. Finally,. defence PSUs represent the best opportunity because the runway is unlimited and there's a monopoly. The worst, because the government’s diktat on what they make on every order can change the fortune of the company. High risk, high reward, it is Poker at best. Let us look at something where you will say, I want to buy this stock and I am just waiting for a better entry point. It could be 5%, it could be 15% or it could be 20%. That is a judgment call. Which are the names where the business is durable enough to give you a 20-25% growth? You are just waiting for the right price, maybe that moment of panic, or that moment of turbulence in the market, and you are happy to press the buy button. Ajay Srivastava: Very clearly, the MNC infrastructure stocks.

We need well-designed and nationally-accepted tools to measure social inequality
Several states in India have collected detailed caste and sub-caste (jati) data over the past few years. Bihar became the first state to publicly release such data when it tabled its caste survey report in the state assembly earlier this month. Despite some complaints about the veracity of the numbers, all political parties seem to have accepted them.
