The court's decision was based on the notion that it is unlikely for a «prudent» girl to accompany a stranger to a hotel room on their first meeting. Lahase had moved HC against his conviction and 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence handed down by a sessions court in Amravati in November 2021. The High Court's single bench, led by Justice Govinda Sanap, questioned the credibility of the survivor's testimony and found her version of events implausible. According to the prosecution, Lahase met the minor girl on Facebook in March 2017, coerced her into a sexual relationship, and later blackmailed her by threatening to share explicit photos. The survivor also claimed that after she ended the relationship, Lahase shared the intimate photos with her family and fiancé.

Delhi High Court on Friday granted interim bail till January 30 to four co-owners of the basement of an Old Rajinder Nagar coaching centre where three civil services aspirants drowned in July. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma, while pronouncing the verdict on the bail pleas of the four accused, said the relief is subject to the co-owners depositing Rs 5 crore with the Red Cross. The judge said the conduct of the co-owners is «unpardonable» and an «act of greed». In the order, a request has been made to the Lieutenant Governor to constitute a committee under a retired high court judge to ensure no coaching centre is permitted to run without permission. The authorities should also carve out a place for coaching centres in the capital, Justice Sharma added.

Sanjay Roy on Friday refused to give his consent for a narco analysis test, leading the court to reject the CBI's request to conduct the procedure in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case. The CBI had approached the Sealdah court, seeking permission for the test after arresting Roy in connection with the alleged crime. The agency planned to use the narco test to verify Roy’s statements. “The test would help determine if Roy is telling the truth,” the officer stated. During the procedure, sodium pentothal is administered to induce a hypnotic state, neutralising the subject’s imagination, the officer explained, adding that this method often leads to the accused providing accurate information. A hearing on the CBI’s appeal was expected later in the afternoon. The agency had already conducted a polygraph test on Roy inside Presidency Correctional Home, as part of the investigation.

CBI is planning to conduct a narco analysis test on Sanjay Roy who was arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a doctor in R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, an officer said on Friday. The central probe agency has appealed to the city-based Sealdah court seeking permission to conduct the test on Roy, he said. «This is primarily to cross-check whether Roy is telling the truth. The narco analysis test will help us to verify his version,» the officer told PTI. During a narco analysis test, a drug sodium pentothal is injected into the body of the subject which takes him to a hypnotic state, and his imagination is neutralised, the CBI officer explained.

The bench, however, applied a few conditions before releasing the Aam Aadmi Party supremo. While reading out the judgment, Justice Surya Kant said, «We direct Arvind Kejriwal to be released on bail subject to bail bonds of Rs 10 lakhs.»
