SC issues notice to Gujarat govt in seaplane firm's blacklisting case
₹25 lakh for performance guarantee and ₹10 lakh earnest money deposit were forfeited due to non-submission of ownership or lease documents for the aircraft, a mandatory condition in the tender agreement. Last year, the company moved the Gujarat High Court, stating that it had won the bid but received a show-cause notice for termination due to not executing an agreement for the service. In October 2022, the high court dismissed the petition and noted that the show-cause notice had been issued informing the company about proposed actions due to non-compliance with the agreement conditions.

Redesigned Apple Watches not subject to import ban, US Customs says
Apple can use a redesign to bypass an import ban on newer Apple Watch models stemming from its patent infringement dispute with medical-monitoring technology company Masimo, according to a Monday court filing. The import ban, issued by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), applies to Apple's current Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches and initially went into effect on Dec. 26. Apple convinced a U.S. appeals court to pause the ban the next day, and has since resumed selling the watches as it contests the import ruling.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma witnessed revival of bulbuli fight at Hayagriva Madhav Mandir
revival of bulbuli fight, a quintessential tradition of the Bhogali Bihu at Shri Hayagriva Madhav Mandir at Hojo. It may be noted that this ancient tradition of Bihu was recently revived by the State government. Therefore, after nearly a decade, the devotees of the Hayagriva Madhav mandir and other enthusiasts could witness the bulbuli fight and enjoyed the ancient heritage as a part of the Bhogali Bihu celebrations. This competition dates back to the days of Swargadeo Pramatta Singha and in December 2023, the State government decided to revive it after a gap of nine years. Sarma along with wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma and his son and daughter visited Hayagriva Madhav Mandir and offered their pujas. In December last year Assam cabinet gave in-principle approval to the issue of detailed procedure/SOP for permitting traditional buffalo and bull fights to be organised during Magh Bihu at Ahatguri, Morigaon district, Nagaon district or in any other part of Assam. Rhe cabinet meeting stated that the SOP aims at ensuring no deliberate torture or cruelty is carried out on the animals and their well-being is provided for by the organisers during the annual Moh-juj festival, an integral part of the centuries-old Assamese cultural tradition The Supreme Court had banned traditional buffalo fights. In Magh Bihu celebration (which is held in the month of January) the buffalo fights are organised as a part of the age-old tradition in Morigaon. Fights were held in Ahatguri and Raha. These fights were organised however informally.

Osaka crashes out as Medvedev, Gauff power on at Australian Open
Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka's Grand Slam comeback ended abruptly Monday, crashing out to Caroline Garcia, but US Open winner Coco Gauff and men's third seed Daniil Medvedev surged on in Melbourne. On a baking-hot day at Melbourne Park, men's seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and women's sixth seed Ons Jabeur also tasted first-round victory. But Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and veteran Andy Murray made early exits. Japanese star Osaka, 26, stepped away from the sport in September 2022, citing mental health concerns. After giving birth to a baby girl in July, she decided to return for the new season and was back at the scene of her title-winning exploits in 2019 and 2021. But she was unable to rediscover her championship-winning form against 16th-seeded Frenchwoman Garcia after just two competitive games in Brisbane since returning. «She's been through a lot but I'm just very glad to see her back and I hope she can enjoy the tennis now and have fun out there.
