Why oil flows through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline have been halted
Here is an outline of the pipeline dispute: WHAT IS THE LATEST? On a visit to Erbil on Sunday, Iraqi oil minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani said he expects to reach an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and foreign oil companies to resume oil production from the Kurdish region's oilfields within three days, signalling a potential restart soon. Turkey had said last month the pipeline was ready to begin operations, but Iraq maintained it had received no official notification over the pipeline and a senior energy adviser told Reuters Baghdad was waiting to iron out «lingering financial and technical issues» ahead of any restart. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? While Iraq, OPEC's second-largest oil producer, exports about 85% of its crude via ports in the south, the northern route via Turkey still accounts for about 0.5% of global oil supply. WHAT PROMPTED THE SHUTDOWN? Supplies of 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) were halted on March 25 after an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration ruling. The ICC ordered Ankara to pay Baghdad damages of about $1.5 billion for unauthorised exports by the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) between 2014 and 2018. KRG exports flow through a KRG pipeline to Fish-Khabur on the northern Iraqi border, where the oil enters Turkey and is pumped to the port of Ceyhan on its Mediterranean coast. Iraq's federal government says state-owned marketer SOMO is the only party authorised to manage crude exports via Ceyhan.

For Canadian veterans, the toxic legacy of burn pits lingers: advocate
veterans long after they end their tour of duty and an emerging health concern is exposure to toxic burn pits.Retired Master Corporal Arjan Grewal, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, told The West Block host Mercedes Stephenson that burn pits were a common part of life on bases during his six tours of duty.“It’s a large bonfire, if you will, that is in the middle of a military base or a forward operating base. And it’s used to incinerate everything, and I mean everything; helicopter carcasses, batteries, human waste, ammunition, food waste,” Grewal explained.“Why burn pits are such a specific cause of toxic exposure is because it smolders.

Stocks Week Ahead: Big Swings Expected as CPI, Retail Sales, PPI Take Center Stage
Stocks had a big rally day on Friday, but most of the week was a real struggle. The rally on Friday didn’t help the equal-weight S&P 500 or Russell 2000 finish positive for the week, despite the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 finishing higher by more than 1 and 2%, respectively. It appears to be more of the same, with just a handful of stocks continuing to power the major indexes higher while the rest of the market is left behind.

SC ruling on personal guarantors could be a wake-up call for Indian promoters
The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed banks to launch insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code or IBC against those who had furnished personal guarantees for loans taken by companies that have defaulted. This ruling, a blow to many promoters, is significant – more so because it again signals a shift in favour of Indian lenders- bolstering their ability to enforce guarantees without long legal battles besides leading to faster recoveries.
