Cong resolves to make INDIA bloc 'ideological and electoral success' to free country from 'divisive politics'
Congress on Saturday resolved to make the INDIA bloc an «ideological and electoral success» to free the country from "divisive politics" and ensure that people get a government that is sensitive and accountable. The party made the assertion in a resolution adopted by the Congress Working Committee, which held its first meeting after being reconstituted. The CWC also «wholeheartedly» welcomed the continuing consolidation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) claiming it has already rattled Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. In its resolution, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), which is the party's highest decision-making party, expressed grave concern at the «increasing unemployment and continuous rise in prices, especially of essential commodities». «The prime minister's so-called Rozgar melas are a hoax to cover up the abject failure to create, as promised, two crore jobs a year,» the resolution said. The CWC claimed that the failure to conduct the decennial Census, due in 2021, is a «national and an international shame». «One of the consequences is that an estimated 14 crore of the poorest Indians are denied their entitlement to food rations since ration cards are issued on the basis of the 2011 Census.

India vs. Sri Lanka: When, where, and how to watch the Asia Cup final live
India is set to take on Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final on Sunday at the Colombo Stadium. India was the first to enter the final with a thumping 41-run win over a spirited Sri Lanka in a Super 4 match earlier this week. Hence, the loss to Bangladesh on Friday did not affect its chances as it already entered the final with four points and a much better run rate than other teams. Later, Sri Lanka also secured its berth in the Asia Cup final after snatching a two-wicket victory over Pakistan on Thursday. Meanwhile, India has called Washington Sundar as a cover for the injured Axar Patel for the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on Sunday. Axar sustained several injuries during India's six-run loss to Bangladesh in their last Super Four match on Friday. Sri Lanka off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana has also been ruled out of the Asia Cup final clash against India on Sunday due to a hamstring injury.

Midcap Surge: Experts decode India's growth amid global flux
“The correction we observed in midcap seems overdone primarily because, if you consider the index, 75% weightage is on large caps and 25% covers numerous midcaps,” says Sudip Bandyopadhyay of Inditrade Capital. “Midcaps and smallcaps will always remain an attractive investment opportunity. They do present challenges, like liquidity. Investing in some of these smallcaps is similar to venturing into VC-backed companies – they exhibit very strong growth,” says Punita Kumar Sinha of Pacific Paradigm Advisors. Edited excerpts:

United States largest public university system to hike tuition six per cent annually for next five years
California State University, the nation's largest public university system, voted Wednesday to raise student tuition by 6% each year for five consecutive years to try to narrow a $1.5 billion deficit, a decision that some students called disheartening. The university's governing board voted 15-5 to approve the increases that will start across the 23-campus system in the fall of 2024. Annual tuition for full-time California undergraduate students will increase by $342 next year to $6,084. By the 2028-2029 school year, those students will be paying $7,682. The tuition hikes are needed to provide support to students, both through financial aid and programs to help them succeed academically, university officials say. The extra revenue is also needed to give more resources to faculty and staff and maintain school facilities, according to a report about the system's finances released in May. The report found the system with 460,000 students, many of them minorities and first-generation college students, has enough revenue to cover about 86% of what it actually costs to meet student, staff, and institution needs, leaving it with a $1.5 billion gap. «We are at a crossroads and if we don't do it now… it's going to get more and more difficult,» said Julia Lopez, a CSU trustee and the co-chairperson of the working group that wrote this report.

Tata Steel to get £500 million from UK for Port Talbot
Tata Steel announced a revival plan for its UK unit, securing a £500 million grant from the Rishi Sunak government to help fund the transition of the Port Talbot plant to more sustainable technologies. The announcement marks the end of years-long negotiations between Tata Steel and multiple British governments. The grant will help the Port Talbot Steelworks, the largest steel plant in the UK, shift to electric arc furnaces. The project is estimated at £1.25 billion, with the rest of the capital expected to be put up by Tata Steel. The project will also involve Tata Steel's balance sheet being restructured with the potential elimination of the current cash losses in the UK operations and non-cash impairment of legacy investments, the company said. «The agreement with the UK government is a defining moment for the future of the steel industry and indeed the industrial value chain in the UK,» said Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran.
