India vs Pakistan: Cut-off time extended to 90 min, 20 over run chase on cards as well
Asia Cup on Sunday has been extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes along with the possibility of a 20-over run-chase scenario as well. As per the latest updates, the cut-off time for the game for time is now 12 am (local time) and the 20-over clash between the two sides can begin as late as 10.36 pm (local time), ESPNcricinfo reported, adding that the next inspection will take place at 7.30 pm. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Indian head coach Rahul Dravid were on the field, inspecting the puddles of waterIndia left by the rain. Earlier in the day, for the second time this Asia Cup, rain played spoilsport in a clash involving traditional rivals India and Pakistan, as the blockbuster Super Four clash at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo was halted after heavy showers forced the ground staff to bring on the covers. India, given a flying start by the opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, were sitting pretty at 147 for the loss of 2 wickets when the heavens intervened. However, before the teams were forced back to the dressing rooms, Rohit and Shubman put on a show smacking the Pakistbowlers to all corners in a whirlwind partnership of 121 runs. Shaheen Shaf Afridi and Shadab Khan claimed a wicket apiece to bring the Pakistanis back into the game after the India openers sent them on a leather hunt in the initial overs. Rohit (56) fell to a soft dismissal off Shadab while Gill (58) perished in the next over, failing to read a slower one from Shaheen and lobbing a catch to Agha Salman at extra cover. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul then came together and looked to have stabilised the innings when rain interrupted play.

external debt
India's external debt-service ratio at 5.3 pc within comfort zone, says FM
India's external debt of USD 624.7 billion at March-end 2023 with a debt-service ratio of 5.3 per cent is within the comfort zone and modest from a cross-country perspective, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said. In her foreword to 'India's External Debt: A Status Report 2022-23' released earlier this month, Sitharaman said the ratio of external debt to GDP declined to 18.9 per cent at March-end 2022-23 from 20 per cent a year ago. The long-term debt constituted 79.4 per cent of total external debt, while short-term debt, which is 20.6 per cent of the total external borrowing, is basically incurred to finance imports, enhancing the stability aspects of the total external debt, she said. «From a cross-country perspective, India's external debt position is better than most of the Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) as measured by select vulnerability indicators, such as share of short-term debt in total external debt, external debt to GNI (Gross National Income), forex reserves to external debt and external debt to exports,» the minister noted. The report said the debt service ratio during 2022-23 has increased marginally to 5.3 per cent from 5.2 per cent during the previous year, mainly due to a rise in debt service payments from USD 41.6 billion in 2021-22 to USD 49.2 billion in 2022-23. The 'debt service ratio' is measured by the proportion of 'gross debt service payments' (both principal and interest) to 'external current receipts', which indicates the extent of pre-emption of forex reserves for the purposes of repayment of principal and interest out of the stock of foreign debt. The increase in gross external debt service payments during 2022-23 was due to the combined impact of an increase in debt service

Congress labels PM Modi's 'global talk' on environment at G20 Summit 'sheer hypocrisy'
Congress on Sunday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks on environment at the G20 Summit as «sheer hypocrisy», and claimed his "global talk" is completely at odds from the «local walk». Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the Modi government of comprehensively dismantling India's environmental protections and snatching away the rights of the most vulnerable communities dependent on forests. «The PM's statements at the G20 and other summits globally are sheer hypocrisy.

Self-employed? Don’t forget to consider these factors while taking a health insurance plan
self-employed people have to carefully plan various aspects of their work and life. One of these is choosing a suitable health insurance plan. Yogesh Agarwal, Founder and CEO of employee healthcare platform Onsurity, says, “As of 2023, there are an estimated 73.3 million freelancers in the United States. According to an Everly Survey, 42% freelancers in the US don’t have any form of health insurance due to high costs. Now, if we talk about India, it has over 15 million freelancers. However, there is no data on the public domain as to what percentage of freelancers in India have health insurance coverage. Of the 10,00,000 individuals served by Onsurity through its employee healthcare plans, 43% are gig and contractual workers.” But why should self-employed individuals invest in health insurance? This coverage is needed to meet financial responsibilities and unexpected expenses related to the health of the individual and family. As freelancers do not have a guaranteed steady income or corporate healthcare coverage, health insurance is especially necessary for them. Agarwal says the cashless claim feature in health insurance policies can be invaluable for the self-employed. Pankaj Goenka, Assistant Vice-President & Head-B2B Business, InsuranceDekho, says that investing in a comprehensive health insurance plan isn’t just a smart financial move, but also a proactive step towards safeguarding ourselves from the unexpected burden of medical costs. The other benefits include financial security, peace of mind, quality healthcare, preventive care and tax deductions.

European Commission urges G20 countries to set ambitious climate targets for 2030
European Commission on Saturday urgedG20 countries to agree to global targets on tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030, seen as critical to limiting the global average temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Addressing the «One Earth» session at the G20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasised the urgency of addressing climate change, saying: «Climate change is man-made. So, it means we can fix it.» She underscored the disproportionate impact of climate change, noting that G20 countries are responsible for a staggering 80 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, while Africa, with less than 4 per cent of emissions, is among the most affected. The European Commission president reminded the G20 countries that «we are about to miss our objective of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees». «So, it is absolutely critical that we maintain our path of 1.5 degrees.
