UPS Food wellness Cycling show track social Focus on public capex going to be paramount in coming years: Aurodeep Nandi
«The daily data that we are tracking is showing that vegetable prices is probably going to be as much if not higher than what we have observed in June. The other aspect is also that telecom tariffs were increased by around 20% or so in end of June and so the impact of that is likely to be visible in the July print,» says Aurodeep Nandi, India Economist, Nomura. The inflation reading though on a bit on expected lines came in above the 5% mark. Thanks to perhaps what is happening in the veggies side because of erratic monsoon. But do you expect it to remain sticky for some time? It appears even RBI is readying the street that inflation is sticky, rates could remain higher for longer. Aurodeep Nandi: Well, there are three things really to watch out for as far as July is concerned. One is that we have this massive-massive favourable base effect that kicks in. So, last year, June was 4.9%, that spiked to 7.4% in July. So, simultaneously, the July number coming up will be impacted by a favourable base. But that is going to mask a lot of the upside pressures that are there. One, as you mentioned, vegetable prices. These are typically the months when vegetable prices go up quite a lot.

UPS Election Trade Cycling country Prioritising India-UK ties, FTA in focus under new PM Keir Starmer
Keir Starmer on Friday has paved the way for a fresh chapter in the country's relations with India as the Labour Party takes charge of steering the stalled Free Trade Agreement negotiations that got stalled with the outgoing Rishi Sunak-led administration. If recent high-profile visits by the shadow cabinet members, stepping up as Cabinet members, are anything to go by, the choreography around India being a priority country is likely to see at least some degree of continuity. However, despite a manifesto commitment to build a «new strategic partnership» and the then shadow foreign secretary and now the Foreign Secretary in Starmer's government, David Lammy promising to be on a flight to India before the end of July if elected, how much of a priority India will be among the various domestic pressures facing a cost-of-living crisis hit Britain remains an unknown factor. The India-UK FTA talks began in January 2022 but were stalled in the 14th round as both countries stepped into their general election cycles this year. India saw the new government in the first week and on Friday, it was the UK's.

markets COST wellness shooting Cycling rights Commentary Should investors bet on large-cap pharma stocks? Alok Agarwal answers
«I remain upbeat and positive about the changes. Yes, at the same time, there are increasingly green shoots visible in the lower end of most consumer products, and this change is coming at the right time, possibly indicating better growth ahead of us,» says Alok Agarwal, Alchemy Capital. What is your take on the commentary from Rajiv about the category breaker this particular CNG bike could become? It is the first of its kind, and clearly, you have to give full marks for that. The stock is higher by 2%. But what does it do to this category, this value category? The 85,000-95,000 per unit value category was ignored by everybody, as all the players were focusing on premiumization. Can it revitalize that space and get volumes back? Alok Agarwal: We have been seeing a K-shaped recovery all through, especially after COVID, and that was reflected in automobiles and two-wheelers as well. But at the same time, one of the most efficient companies is coming forward with CNG bikes. I think it is a welcome step, a welcome move. It is a calculated move as well. They have also showcased how they have changed things in the past. So, I remain upbeat and positive about the changes. Yes, at the same time, there are increasingly green shoots visible in the lower end of most consumer products, and this change is coming at the right time, possibly indicating better growth ahead of us.

markets UPS Provident wellness Cycling Profiles Valuations are up... will profits keep pace?
earnings versus a 20-year average of 20.4x (at the 88th percentile). So, what has been driving the markets and more importantly, what’s next? The superior returns were triggered by a stable macroeconomic profile, improving corporate profitability as well as strong liquidity. On the macro side, fiscal consolidation, a focus on capital spends and moderating inflation have boded well for India. The recent GDP growth print of 8.2% was also a positive surprise for market participants. From a corporate profitability point of view, from FY18’s low of 1.3%, India’s corporate profits as % of GDP have dramatically improved to 5.5% in FY23. Liquidity has been strong too, providing a cushion to the markets. In 2023, FIIs bought $21.4 billion, while domestic institutions bought $22.3 billion. The vast improvement seen in systematic investments into mutual funds is particularly heartening. SIPs —which stood at Rs 8,500 crore in FY20 — amounted to Rs 20,900 crore in May of 2024. Even as these numbers explain what has happened in recent years, the question still remains: what now? And what next?
