Samajwadi Party on Thursday changed its candidate for a second time in Meerut, replacing Atul Pradhan with former mayor Sunita Verma Pradhan. April 4 was the last date for filing nomination in Meerut, which will got to poll in the second phase of Lok Sabha election in the state. Pradhan, who had filed his nomination on Wednesday, said he accepts the decision of party national president Akhilesh Yadav, who he met in the morning. In his post on X, Pradhan, who is SP MLA from Sardhana seat said, «Whatever decision National President Akhilesh Yadav ji has taken, I accept it. Soon I will sit with supporters and discuss.»

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik has announced the second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha. BJD candidates for five Lok Sabha seats declared by the CM are Surendra Singh Bhoi from Balangir), Manjulata Mandal (Bhadrak), Parineeta Mishra (Bargarh), Bhrugu Baxipatra (Berhampur) and Dhanurjay Siddu (Keonjhar). The names of 27 candidates for simultaneous assembly polls have also been announced.

Apna Dal on Sunday announced an alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), forming a fourth front in UP in the run-up to the general elections. The alliance has been named PDM (acronym of Picchda, Dalit, Musalman), offering a competing take on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's 'Picchda (backwards) Dalit Alpsankhyak (minorities)' theme for the INDIA bloc in UP. «Because we are fighting to establish the current identity of the backwards, Dalits and Muslims, therefore setting aside the confusion of alphabet 'A', we are bringing the PDM nyaya morcha,» Patel said at a joint conference with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Lucknow.

Narendra Modi on Sunday said that his government is making efforts to make the sugarcane belts across the country into «energy belts,» a reference to the use of ethanol as fuel. Uttar Pradesh minister Swami Prasad Maurya, who recently parted ways with the Samajwadi Party, on Sunday said he will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Kushinagar as a candidate of his Rashtriya Shoshit Samaaj Party. Claiming that he held talks with the INDIA bloc constituents from Uttar Pradesh over seat sharing but got no response, Maurya also announced that S N Chauhan will be his party's candidate from the Deoria Lok Sabha seat.
