Govt working towards restoring lost brand image of Andhra: CM Chandrababu Naidu
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said his government is working towards restoring the lost brand image of Andhra Pradesh. Addressing the state after hoisting the national flag here on the 78th Independence Day, the Chief Minister alleged that Andhra Pradesh regressed 30 years under the previous YSRCP regime. «The rulers (YSRCP govt) who came to power under the pretext of one chance had created devastation of unheard proportions. They destroyed the systems and projected victims as culprits to make a mockery of democracy,» said Naidu. Claiming that the southern state incurred a huge loss under the YSRCP government than the bifurcation of the united state, he said the TDP-led government is following the principle of simple and effective governance to undo those losses. According to Naidu, the TDP government is striving to bring back the companies which had cancelled their agreements and exited the state.

Karnataka Congress govt to close Jan Aushadhi outlets
Karnataka and the Centre as the state health and medical education departments have decided to shut down Jan Aushadhi outlets in state government hospitals. This decision could add to the ongoing tensions between the state and Centre over various issues. Jan Aushadhi outlets provide quality generic drugs at affordable rates under the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi scheme. Currently, these outlets operate at a limited number of government facilities, including KC General Hospital in Bengaluru. However, health department officials have indicated plans to close them soon. This decision might aggravate existing disputes over authority over HMT Ltd land, repairs of the Tungabhadra dam crest gate, and Karnataka's share of the devolution of taxes. The Karnataka BJP has announced plans to launch an agitation in response to this decision. On the other hand, Congress functionaries argue that government hospitals offer medicines for free and that having Jan Aushadhi outlets on the premises could lead to corruption. Despite this, government officials clarified that they are not against Jan Aushadhi outlets located outside hospital premises.

US said to consider a breakup of Google to address search monopoly
Google was found last week to have violated antitrust law by illegally maintaining a monopoly in internet search. Now discussions over how to fix those violations have begun. Justice Department officials are considering what remedies to ask a federal judge to order against the search giant, said three people with knowledge of the deliberations involving the agency and state attorneys general who helped to bring the case. They are discussing various proposals, including breaking off parts of Google, such as its Chrome browser or Android smartphone operating system, two of the people said. Other scenarios under consideration include forcing Google to make its data available to rivals, or mandating that it abandon deals that made its search engine the default option on devices like the iPhone, said the people, who declined to be identified because the process is confidential. The government is meeting with other companies and experts to discuss their proposals for limiting Google's power, the people said.

Katy Perry faces probe over music video song 'Lifetimes'. Here's what has happened?
Katy Perry has found himself in the midst of a brewing controversy after Spanish government authorities launched an inquest into the allegedly unauthorised Ibiza shoot. The regional government is investigating the video for her latest song, 'Lifetimes', for the clips in which the 39-year-old American singer and songwriter appears jumping and running across dunes of the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, apparently without permission. In her new music video, Katy Perry pretends to be one of the thousands of tourists having the time of their lives on Spain's Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. But some parts, filmed in a protected natural enclave, could get her into trouble.

Centre can only decide on diverting forest land for strong battalion infrastructure: NGT
NGT) has said that only the Centre can decide whether constructing a «strong» battalion infrastructure in a reserve forest area would impact the issue of conservation of forests. The green panel was hearing a plea alleging that Assam's forest department had illegally diverted 28 hectares of reserve forest for the establishment of the 2nd Assam Commando Battalion in the Assam-Nagaland interstate border area of Geleky Reserve Forest in Sibsagar district. It also alleged that unauthorised permission was granted by the then Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) M K Yadava, who «misused his power and position to divert a large part of the forest area» without taking consent from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). In an order passed on August 9, the eastern bench of the NGT comprising judicial member Justice Sheo Kumar Singh and expert member Arun Kumar Verma noted that an affidavit was filed by the present PCCF, stating the construction of the forest battalion was an «activity for forest conservation and management» and while undertaking it, no trees were felled.

Understanding professional tax: What every employee and self-employed individual should know
The other day, I was sitting withtwo of myfriends—one a consultant and the other an employee—when the conversation turned to taxes. My colleague, an employee, was surprised to learn that he had been paying a professional tax of ₹200 every month, automatically deducted from his salary by his employer. The consultant, on the other hand, was fully aware of this tax, as he had to handle the payments himself.
