Wifi penetration continues to lag in India despite govt, telcos' efforts: DST Secretary
Wifi penetration in India continues to lag behind despite several efforts by the government and telecom operators, a top official of the Department of Science and Technology said on Thursday. While speaking at a Broadband India Forum (BIF) event on World Wifi day, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Secretary Abhay Karandikar said the absence of an ubiquitous backend telecom infrastructure is restricting the growth of wifi penetration in India despite advancement in the technology and availability of spectrum. «Wifi is a key to providing affordable connectivity and in India we still continue to lag behind in public wifi penetration in a significant manner despite several efforts made by the government and the operators,» he said.

Air India changed the tickets of an elderly couple, placing them on different flights
tickets and destination were allegedly altered by Air India without their prior knowledge. Dushyant Arora took to X to explain what happened to his partner's parents, both of whom are heart patients. The elderly couple was set to fly to Newark, New Jersey, on Wednesday. Arora stated that when they attempted to check in the previous night, they discovered that Air India had «unilaterally» changed their tickets. Arora said that his partner’s parents were put on different flights. «One flight will depart on one day and the second on another,» he claimed, adding that Air India had modified the father's destination to New York rather than Newark. The mother's destination remained Newark.

July rains seen crucial as delayed monsoon worries farmers
monsoon in many parts of the country has raised concern over the cultivation of kharif crops such as paddy, pulses and soyabean, even though experts still believe any shortfall can be largely mitigated if rainfall picks up by the first week of July. Soyabean Processors Association (SOPA) said only 10% of the area in Madhya Pradesh – the largest producer of the crop – has been sown for soyabean cultivation this year as compared to 50%-60% by this time last year while in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, a majority of farmers are waiting for rains to sow paddy. The pulses trade is worried about the impact of delayed monsoon on tur and urad crops, whose prices have gone up in the last two years due to less production and increased imports. Among pulses, tur, urad and moong are cultivated during the kharif season.

SpiceJet says AC in Delhi-Darbhanga flight "experienced slight inefficiency" during boarding
SpiceJet on Wednesday said the air conditioning in its Delhi to Darbhanga flight «experienced slight inefficiency» during boarding at Delhi Airport even as media reports suggested that passengers had to wait inside the aircraft for an hour without air-conditioning. The air-conditioning, however, kept working normally throughout the journey and the flight also departed on time, SpiceJet said. «SpiceJet flight SG 476 from Delhi to Darbhanga on June 19, scheduled to depart at 11 am, departed on time without any delays. During the boarding in Delhi, the air conditioning initially experienced slight inefficiency due to extreme weather conditions and both doors of the aircraft being open, as boarding was not via the aerobridge,» the Gurugram-based domestic carrier said in a statement. The airline's statement came amid media reports that passengers of SpiceJet's Darbhanga flight from Delhi had to wait inside the aircraft without air-conditioning for an hour.
