FM Sitharaman asks civil accounts officers to make Govt's annual accounts more user-friendly
Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday asked civil accounts services officials to work towards making the government's annual accounts more approachable and user-friendly. Addressing the 49th Civil Accounts Day event here, Sitharaman lauded the Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officers, led by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) for the «silent technological revolution» in which states are finding a lot more ease of operation and ease of getting their government business done by adopting the public financial management system (PFMS). «I would also like you to examine, in consultation with the CAG, whether it would be possible to make the annual accounts more approachable and user-friendly and allow citizens to analyse easily and generate customisable and simpler reports,» Sitharaman said. She said that since a lot of digital integration has already taken place with the states, more research can be carried out based on the data set available with the CGA. «If you're able to make the report a lot more user-friendly, that itself can generate a lot of interest in the work that you do,» the Minister said.

US consumer spending falls in January; monthly inflation rises
inflation could provide cover for the Federal Reserve to delay cutting interest rates for some time. Consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, dropped 0.2% last month after an upwardly revised 0.8% increase in December, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis said on Friday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast consumer spending gaining 0.1% after a previously reported 0.7% surge in December, when outlays were boosted by pre-emptive buying in anticipation of tariffs which would raise prices for imported goods.

Bengaluru court takes fresh cognisance of chargesheet against B S Yediyurappa, issues summons
BJP leader BS Yediyurappa and three other accused in connection with a POCSO Act case to appear before it on March 15. The court which handles cases booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act took fresh cognisance of a charge sheet filed by the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against 82-year-old Yediyurappa, a former chief minister. The Karnataka High Court on February 7 had directed the special court to consider afresh and pass appropriate orders on the CID's final report in the case. The High Court had issued this order while partly allowing the petition filed by Yediyurappa challenging proceedings against him under the POCSO Act, and remitting back to the trial court the criminal case registered against him. It had also granted anticipatory bail to him.
