India’s Hyperloop leap: The future of ultra-high-speed travel begins now
ultra-high-speed rail (UHSR), or hyperloop. The concept was first published by Elon Musk in a 2013 white paper, 'Hyperloop Alpha'. Hyperloop envisions pods carrying passengers or cargo in near-vacuum tubes at speeds approaching that of aircraft. Reduced friction and magnetic levitation enable significantly abbreviated travel times, reducing energy consumption and emissions compared to traditional modes. India commissioned a 422-m hyperloop test track — the world's longest — in December 2024, developed by Avishkar Hyperloop at IIT Madras, in collaboration with the Indian Railways and L&T Construction. Last month, TuTr Hyperloop, another IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech startup, working with Swisspod Technologies, conducted India's first commercial hyperloop pod test run.

Why are the rich leaving India, where are they headed?
There were 2.83 lakh Indians who can be tagged as UHNIs in 2023, with each having a net worth of over Rs 25 crore and their aggregate wealth was pegged at Rs 2.83 lakh crore. The same is expected to grow to 4.3 lakh individuals possessing a wealth of Rs 359 lakh crore by 2028, as per the survey. Kotak Mahindra Bank's president Gautami Gavankar, however, said the decision to migrate should not be seen as a flight of capital out of the country, pointing out that the caps on such activities ensure that the money does not flow out even if a person changes residency.

First day in Delhi, woman's encounter with driver takes a shocking turn: 'When he realised I had no phone he said...'
Delhi, can be overwhelming. A woman recently experienced this firsthand when she shifted to the city without a working phone. Struggling to book a ride, she had to rely on shopkeepers and tea vendors for assistance, though some hesitated, fearing she might run away with their phones. However, on her first day in Delhi, she was left in utter disbelief after her driver realised that she did not have a phone and had to reach her PG. When she finally managed to book a ride, her driver, a man in his 40s, noticed that her destination seemed unsafe. Concerned for her well-being, he insisted on waiting until she reached her accommodation and met the PG owner. He explained that as a father himself, he wouldn’t mind spending extra time ensuring her safety. Since she only had cash and no digital payment options, she asked her mother to send money to the driver. However, he reassured her that payment wasn’t an issue and that he would earn more throughout the day. This unexpected act of kindness left her deeply moved, reaffirming her belief that good people still exist.

Move over Thailand, fastest-growing Vietnam is India’s new travel playground
Vietnam, which has now emerged as the fastest-growing tourism destination in Southeast Asia. Now, Vietnam has emerged as the third-most-visited country in the region, with 17.5 million international arrivals in 2024, edging ahead of Singapore. It follows Malaysia, which had 25 million visitors, and Thailand, which remains at the top with 35 million. The numbers also make Vietnam, also referred to as the Land of the Ascending Dragon, the regional leader in tourism recovery. Five years after the Covid-19 pandemic brought global travel to a halt, Vietnam has regained 98% of its pre-pandemic tourism business, outpacing all its neighbours, including Thailand (87.5%) and Singapore (86%). The momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Nearly four million international tourists arrived in Vietnam in January and February this year, a 30.2% increase from the same period last year, according to figures from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

Fleet could be flat, but the purpose is good: Air India chief Campbell Wilson
Air India Express will take delivery of several narrow-body planes during the year, allowing it to capture strong growth opportunities in the latter half of the year on domestic and short-haul international routes. «Well, our operating fleet is going to be pretty flat this year (FY26), in part because of delays to delivery, but also because we're taking aircraft out of service to do the refit, the Boeing B787s and the B777s in particular. And so, it means that we're actually not able to grow. But it's an investment for a good purpose,» said Wilson. Air India currently has a fleet of 198 planes including 70 inherited from Vistara-the erstwhile full-service joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. Separately, Air India Express operates 103 aircraft-36 Airbus and 67 Boeing-including 38 new Boeing jetliners from an October 2023 order. Nine more narrow-bodies are slated to join by this June.

ToI explained that the UK allowed drivers from most countries to use their cars without paying any charge for 90 days, but because the US had not signed the relevant international convention: “American cars are required to be registered with British number plates and this is done at the ship’s side.” Licence plate-spotting goes back a while.

old tax regime for FY25 must submit tax-saving proofs to ensure that less tax (due to the tax savings) is deducted from his/her salary and to avoid the hassle of claiming a refund while filing the year's income tax return (ITR). If eligible, one can claim various tax exemptions and deductions under the old tax regime while filing ITR as well; these include HRA exemption, Section 80C, and other deductions. However, many people are unaware that the exemption claimed for leave travel allowance (LTA) in ITR can face detailed scrutiny/questioning by the income tax authorities if the exemption is not claimed through an employer.

Hargreaves Lansdown's Derren Nathan: How London can regain its competitiveness against other stock exchanges
Despite extensive simplification of the listing requirements throughout 2024 and a rebound in activity during Q4, 2025 is yet to see the IPO floodgates reopen. Measures such as a less burdensome prospectus regime and a fast track for companies looking to establish a dual listing in London are welcome steps in the right direction, but they are not going to be a panacea. The US, which saw proceeds from new issues spike 48% to $33bn last year, is increasingly seen as the destination of choice for high-quality listed companies, despite being no light touch on regulation either.
