RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case in Kolkata ended their hunger strike after a two-hour-long meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat Nabanna on Monday night. «Today at the meeting with the Chief Minister, we got the opportunity to discuss many things and she also spoke to us about many things. We have got assurance of some directives, which she said we would get by 3 pm p.m. tomorrow,» SayantGhosh Hazra, a junior doctor, told ANI after the meeting. Seventeen junior doctors participated in the meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The meeting was telecast live from the secretariat.

Ambuja Cement on Tuesday announced that it will acquire Orient Cement Ltd (OCL) at an equity value of Rs 8,100 crore. Additionally, the cement giant make an open offer to acquire additional 26% stake. «Within 3-4 months, the Open Offer shall be completed in accordance with the provisions of the SAST (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers) Regulations. The Open Offer is being made at Rs 395.40 per equity share, which has been determined in accordance with SAST Regulations,» informed the company through stock exchange filing. Shares of both the involved cement players were trading in the green after the announcement of acquisition deal. Ambuja's shares went up 1.49% at Rs 580 while shares of Orient Cement were trading at Rs 358.25, up 1.65% as of 9:20 am.

Meta shut down facial recognition software on Facebook amid a groundswell of privacy and regulator pushback, the social media giant said on Tuesday it is testing the service again as part of a crackdown on "celeb bait" scams. Meta said it will enroll about 50,000 public figures in a trial which involves automatically comparing their Facebook profile photos with images used in suspected scam advertisements. If the images match and Meta believes the ad are scams, it will block them. The celebrities will be notified of their enrollment and can opt out if they do not want to participate, the company said.

Following his talks with Rousseff, Putin will hold a meeting with PM Modi and later with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Israeli army said Monday that the latest commander responsible for funding the Lebanese Hezbollah group was «eliminated» in Syria. The man, whose name was not released, headed the Iran-backed Hezbollah's Unit 4400 that is «responsible for the transfers and the amount of funds» to the group through Tehran's oil sales, army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a statement. The commander was «eliminated» in Syria «a few hours ago», he added.
