Why it is time to focus on plastic waste recycling and renewables
By By Aditya Pareek Business Development Head, Race Eco Chain Ltd The growing demand for resources and the increasing challenges of waste management have put the recycling industry in the spotlight. As the world adopts principles of circularity and sustainability, the demand for recycling sector is to transform from an unorganized sector into an organized with efficient pillar of the circular economy is growing. ESG & EPR Regulations India's plastic packaging waste supply chain is largely unorganized, with 70% of it lacking formal structure. The nation generates an estimated 26,000 tonnes of plastic waste daily. Government regulations, such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners (PIBOs), will require the use of at least 30% recycled materials in packaging by 2025. This push for sustainability has significantly shifted the industry, driving unprecedented demand for recycled materials. Packaging waste in India is projected to increase by 30% by 2030. Additionally, SEBI's Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) guidelines mandate that companies ensure their suppliers comply with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards, starting with Fortune 500 companies and eventually extending to all organizations.

interest rates are pressuring the U.S. retail sector, where shares of many companies have been dented by months of tight monetary policy while a select few have soared. The S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary Distribution & Retail index is up nearly 14% this year, roughly keeping pace with the S&P 500's year-to-date gain. Much of the sector's strength, however, has been concentrated in a small group of stocks, including heavyweight Amazon.com, which is up nearly 21% this year.

Rishi Sunak's awakward hug while greeting Italian PM Meloni at G7 Summit goes viral: Video
G7 Summit hosted by Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's arrival was marked by a warm, albeit slightly awkward, greeting. The event, taking place in Borgo Egnazia, Apulia, Italy, from June 13 to 15, 2024, saw leaders from the world's major economies gather to discuss critical global issues. As Sunak walked up to Meloni, she welcomed him with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. The moment, captured on video and shared widely online, quickly went viral. While the interaction seemed cordial, internet users were quick to point out an awkwardness, with some suggesting that Meloni appeared to pull back slightly. One social media user humorously noted, «Rishi Sunak being greeted by Giorgia Meloni at G7 looked a lot like he went in for a snog and she pulled back. There was then a real 'eurgh, smelly breath' energy.» Another quipped, «Don't lean in, Rishi!»
