UK PM Starmer to outline plan to make Britain world leader in AI
artificial intelligence, promising to create special zones for data centres and encouraging more graduates to study technology-focused courses. Starmer will say he wants to put AI at the heart of his ambition to grow the economy, while the government will claim if the technology is fully adopted it could increase productivity by 1.5% a year, worth an extra 47 billion pounds ($57 billion), annually over a decade. Ahead of a speech in London by Starmer on AI, the government said it will adopt all the 50 recommendations set out in the report "AI Opportunities Action Plan" by venture capitalist Matt Clifford, submitted to the government last year.

SMEs will thrive, with many advancing to main board: BSE CEO
Sundararaman Ramamurthy, MD & CEO, BSE, says as the nation grows, so does its economy, leading to the expansion of individual enterprises. Entrepreneurs are investing their life savings into their ventures, and I believe that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will thrive, with many advancing to the main board. Once listed, these companies may pursue multiple exchange listings, enhancing liquidity, credibility, and access to financing, which will support greater capital formation and benefit the economy. What is your view on how the SME listings for BSE would move for this year? Sundararaman Ramamurthy: Let me give you a macro picture and then let me come to the BSE picture. From a macro level, we are talking about 6.2, 6.3 crores of SMEs in the country. Today we are talking about the total listing of some 1,000 plus companies across exchanges. All the 6.2 crore companies may not be big enough to come for listing or may not be requiring a listing as well.

Budget 2025’s starry aim: Does India need more funds to fuel its cosmic dreams?
India Budget: India’s space ambitions are soaring, with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) positioning itself as a critical player on the global stage. However, as the nation charts its path to becoming a global space superpower, the question remains: Does India need a higher space budget to achieve its ambitious dreams? The answer may be found soon as India gets ready to present its Union Budget for the next fiacal year. Despite fluctuations in funding, the space sector has contributed significantly to India's economy. Over the past decade, the space sector has generated $60 billion for India’s GDP, creating 4.7 million jobs, including 96,000 in the public and private sectors, according to Socio-Economic Impact Analysis of Indian Space Programme. The sector's contributions are particularly evident in areas such as satellite-based weather forecasting, which benefits millions of farmers and fishermen across the country. ISRO’s satellites also provide high-resolution imagery that plays a crucial role in national security. Click here to find out more about what may happen in Union Budget 2025

BoE's Sarah Breeden: Monetary policy restrictions expected to be removed 'gradually over time'
«In December, I judged that the evidence supported maintaining bank rate at 4.75% and that recent developments supported the case for a gradual approach to the withdrawal of policy restrictiveness in the coming months,» Breeden argued. But she pointed to economic shocks and flagged the importance of «taking a view on which shocks are hitting the economy and how they might play out over time» in order to decide where monetary policy is heading. «Attributing data news to the 'wrong' shocks can have material implications for our understanding of the evolution of the economy in the future...
