Donald Trump seeks to activate his base at Moms for Liberty gathering but risks alienating moderate voters
Donald Trump is scheduled to appear on Friday at the annual gathering of Moms for Liberty, a national nonprofit that has spearheaded efforts to get mentions of LGBTQ+ identity and structural racism out of K-12 classrooms. In a «fireside chat» conversation in the nation's capital, the former president will seek to shore up support and enthusiasm among a major part of his base. The bulk of the group's 130,000-plus members are conservatives who agree with him that parents should have more say in public education and that racial equity programs and transgender accommodations don't belong in schools. Yet Trump also will run the risk of alienating more moderate voters, many of whom see Moms for Liberty's activism as too extreme to be legitimized by a presidential nominee. A year ago, Moms for Liberty was viewed by many as a rising power player in conservative politics that could be pivotal in supporting the Republican ticket. The group's membership had skyrocketed after its launch in 2021, fuelled by parents protesting mandatory masking for students and remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

GDP data: India’s rapid growth set to moderate as consumers remain wary
Official data on Friday will likely show growth moderated last quarter from near-8% pace previously, largely due to a slowdown in government spending before the elections. Recent indicators show consumer sentiment is waning and rural spending still hasn’t recovered to pre-Covid levels. A looming slowdown in the global economy is another major risk to the outlook. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has already trimmed India’s growth forecast for the current calendar year by 20 basis points to 6.7%, while Bloomberg Economics lowered its projection for the fiscal year through March 2025 to 6.8% from 7.2%.

Harris vows tougher approach on migration, supports weapons for Israel
Kamala Harris vowed a tougher approach to migration along the U.S. southern border and said she would not withhold weapons to Israel, in her first interview with a major news organization since becoming the Democratic nominee for president. Harris' interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash reflected an effort to show she is in command of the issues and give Americans a sense of her policy positions with little more than two months until Election Day on Nov. 5. Harris said she would renew a push for comprehensive border legislation that would tighten migration into the United States and vowed to «enforce our laws» against border crossings.

Brittany Mahomes support for Donald Trump may become a difficult problem for Taylor Swift; here's why
Donald Trump Instagram post, the actress is now embroiled in yet another controversy. Most Taylor Swift fans probably weren't pleased with the graphic that the former president's social media account posted on August 13 featuring his 2024 GOP platform. Given that they have different political philosophies, Swift may find it difficult to maintain their friendship during election season if she decides to support Kamala Harris. With a Zoom rally featuring Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Carole King on Tuesday, August 27, the Swifties for Harris campaign managed to raise a whopping $140,000. Although Swift has not yet endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, her past political endorsements of President Joe Biden in 2020 suggest that she leans left. JMM-Congress front takes guard amid Champai-BJP bonding
A section of the coalition said the immediate task is to ensure that Soren's exit does not destabilise the JMM-led government of CM Hemant Soren ahead of the assembly election in the state, expected by October-November. The JMM and Congress camps exuded confidence, claiming Champai Soren would not be able to trigger a large-scale exodus of JMM MLAs before the polls and that the ruling coalition has sufficient numbers to be comfortably placed in the assembly.

BJP ally JDU, opposition MPs seek discussion on caste census with Home Ministry officials
Caste census was the predominant issue raised by the Opposition members at the first meeting of the parliamentary panel on the welfare of OBCs, with BJP ally JDU supporting their demand to call Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials to gather more information on OBCs, sources said. Incidentally, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India is the head of the census organisation, which operates under MHA — necessitating the presence of ministry officials at the meet. At the first meeting of the panel, which was reconstituted earlier this month and headed by BJP MP Ganesh Singh, DMK floor leader in the Lok Sabha, TR Baalu, raised the caste census issue. He was supported by Congress Manickam Tagore and Trinamool Congress' Kalyan Banerjee. JDU's Giridhari Yadav also supported the demand.

10-weeks to U.S. presidential polls; Harris has momentum post DNC, Trump pacing up too
Kamala Harris has gained momentum after the DNC, while Trump is actively campaigning in key swing states. Ten weeks remain until November 5th, the election day. Vice President Harris is riding high on the energy and enthusiasm from last week's Democratic National Convention, the former president Trump is working at breakneck speed to slow her progress. This week, Trump will be running for office in three of the seven battleground states from coast to coast that will probably decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential election: Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. JD Vance of Ohio, his running mate, visits all three of the so-called ‘Blue Wall’ states. As part of his counterprogramming, Trump made stops in five important swing states during the Democratic convention last week in Chicago, and Vance also made rounds of the campaign trail. This week, the vice president and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, begin a two-day bus tour in Georgia, a vital battleground in the Southeast. Until Election Day, the campaign trail is expected to remain gridlocked until further notice. Also Read: Steve Harvey biopic: Who will play the character of the comedian? All about it
