markets COST UPS Booking Election reports RBI's Rs 2.1 lakh crore payout: When it all adds up to deliver a windfall to govt
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had private shareholders, as it had before 1949, they would have been a happy lot on Wednesday evening. The old lady of Mint Street will deliver its bounty from the financial markets — by far the most generous payout it has ever made — to New Delhi. At a time when some of the central banks in the advanced world have reported losses and negative equity, RBI will hand over a dividend cheque of more than ₹2.1 lakh crore to its sole owner, the government. However, the optics of the event — a monetary authority headed by a former bureaucrat making a huge transfer to a macho government towards the end of a long, noisy general election — masks a more prosaic truth. The payout number is a function of local and offshore currency and money markets, coupled with RBI's active intervention in the foreign exchange market. FY24 WAS DIFFERENT

Racing Fighting Election DAL Interviews In Puri, it's BJD pinning hopes on temple; BJP on PM Modi, Sambit Patra's connect
Narendra Modi held a roadshow in Puri after offering prayers at the Lord Jagannath temple. Later in the day, BJP candidate Sambit Patra in a media interview said Lord Jagannath is a devotee of PM Modi. This was enough for Odisha's ruling Biju Janata Dal to pick it up and make it a poll issue. Patra later apologised for his «slip of tongue» and announced to hold a fast for three days as atonement for the sin he committed. On Wednesday, the party published a full-page ad in all leading newspapers of Bhubaneshwar and Puri with a written apology letter by Patra. Lord Jagannath is revered across the state and if it becomes an issue, then Patra will face the heat in Puri. However, an opponent like Arup Patnaik of the BJD is providing comfort to the BJP there. A former Mumbai police commissioner, Patnaik lost in 2019 from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency and this time shifted to Puri.

Karnal is seen as one of the better seats for the BJP which its precursor, Jan Sangh, had won for the first time in 1962. markets Manufacturing economy Election country rights 'Have delivered on 2019 promise of putting corrupt behind bars, our govt leveraged technology to tackle corruption': PM Modi
Prime minister, the 2014 Lok Sabha campaign was strongly anchored in the fight against corruption. In 2019, it was the 'labharthi' model reaching every segment of society, besides the national security imperative that took centre stage. The 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign was expected to be pitched on 'vikas' and 'Viksit Bharat'. But it seems to have turned communal and polarising, your thoughts? Perhaps, you find it polarising because you have not examined the crux of the matter. What is truly communal and polarising is Congress party's manifesto, their issues and their intent. It is my duty to expose them. Just because I am exposing them, you think it is polarising. You noted it correctly that in 2014, corruption was the main issue. In 2019, it was labarthis. In 2024, the main issue is Viksit Bharat. People across the country know that this is an important election which will ensure that we reach Viksit Bharat at the speed of the country's aspirations.
