finance ministry has approved the release of funds for six more months through September 2024 under the government's flagship housing scheme, a move that will enable completion of about 3.5 million rural houses, a senior official told ET. The government had set a target of building 29.5 million houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) by March 2024 to realise its «housing for all» goal. Approval was granted to construct nearly all these. About 26 million houses have already been built since November 2016 when the scheme was rolled out revamping the erstwhile Indira Awas Yojana.

Amit Shah on Monday said that the BJP-led central government's priority is to establish peace in the ethnic strife affected Manipur. This Lok Sabha election is between forces trying to break Manipur and those keeping it united, Shah said at a public meeting in Imphal. The senior BJP leader claimed that attempts of infiltration were being made in the northeastern state to change its demography. «Establishment of peace in Manipur by taking all communities on board and without breaking the state is the priority of the Narendra Modi government,» Shah said.

The promise of every person getting Rs 15 lakh from retrieval of black money stacked abroad is also yet to be realised,» Kharge said. The Congress president said that such guarantees or promises were «false» and people «were taken for a ride». He said that the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls would be an opportunity for the people to support the INDIA bloc and «ensure protection of their fundamental rights and democracy».

Congress MLA in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district after receiving a complaint of hoarding of cash and liquor but no such recovery was made, an official said on Monday. The opposition Congress, including state unit chief Jitu Patwari and senior leader Kamal Nath, termed it as harassment of its tribal MLA Nilesh Uikey through misuse of power by the BJP government. Superintendent of Police Manoj Khatri said following a complaint about hoarding of cash and liquor, a team of police and excise department personnel searched several places in Rajola Raiyat village on Sunday evening. But, the team returned after not finding anything at those places, he said.

Narendra Modi has accused the opposition parties of «spreading lies» over the electoral bonds scheme, which has been struck down by the Supreme Court, and said «everyone will regret it when there is an honest reflection». In an interview with ANI, PM Modi said the electoral bonds scheme was aimed at curbing black money in elections and said the opposition wants to run away after making allegations. He said of the 16 companies who gave donations after action by probe agencies, only 37 per cent of the amount went to the BJP and 63 per cent to opposition parties opposed to the BJP.
